How do you connect this device to an iPad?
You just go to your settiings on ipad and make sure your bluetooth is on. Then your device should come up..bose soundlink..just select.

Is there any way to control the volume through the phone or is it only adjusted through the actual unit?
Yes, once you are connected to your bose, you can control the volume with your phone. Great because when we are in bed we just control volume and shut music off without getting up.
