My wife wanted to watch these films because her kids at work are heavy into them, and she wants to keep up with such things. So of course I picked up the steelbooks, because if I'm gonna get them, the steelbook/digibook/etc collector in me is gonna get them right.
The film itself looks and sounds nice enough, but it's certainly not for me. As the film went on I continually, partially just to annoy my wife, would pause before I knew something was about to happen and say what was about to occur, after it would she'd give me a "how'd you know?" look and I'd pause again, only to yell "Screenwriting 101!" That being said, I'm sure fans of the book enjoyed this film. She enjoyed it enough, though admitted she's a bit tired of having to watch all these teenage dystopian future pictures. I would recommend to a friend only if they have kids or are into the books themselves.

The film itself looks and sounds nice enough, but it's certainly not for me. Even my wife was less into the sequel than the original. However, I'm sure fans of the book and film will be well satisfied with how good they look and sound. I would recommend to a friend only if they have kids or are into the books themselves.

This can almost always be found in BB's various "$7 discount bins" of blu-rays, and it's certainly worth that. The video isn't extraordinary, but certainly an upgrade over the DVD, and the audio is where it's at with an excellent lossless 5.1 track. It's also got some nice, and not overwhelming, amount of bonus material. Certainly worth a pick up for fans of the film or Terry Gilliam and/or Bruce Willis.

Awesome to walk into a store and buy a Shout! disc

It feels a bit like the old days to be able to actually walk into a store like a Best Buy and see a Shout! Factory type release on the shelf - at an excellent price of around $18 too. This three-disc set is the "Blade Runner box set of Army of Darkness releases" if there ever was one - what with 4 (3 in HD - including one 4K remaster; 1 in SD) cuts of the movie and a wealth of other new and old bonus slices of goodness. There is a slight glitch on disc one (the theatrical cut) where about two seconds of inessential footage is missing. However Shout! is offering a free disc exchange for those bothered by it's absence.

...which yes, means I count his guest appearance as a cross dressing FBI agent on 'Twin Peaks' ;) Right now BB has a great price on the blu of this set, $17.99. The show kind of finds it's footing for the first 2-3 episodes but continues to develop and get better and by the end of the season my wife and I certainly were both fans. Duchovny is of course a driving factor in making the show work, but a lot of the others become highlights as well, including highlights from the the guys who play Charles Manson and Duchovny's reluctant partner. The blu is a little light on bonus material, but the webisodes are fun little backstory fillers.
Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis. A brilliant scientist's unbridled ambition leads to his own grotesque transformation. David Cronenberg directed this chilling remake. 1986/color/95 min/R.

I'm still partial to the original (big Vincent Price fan), but there is something to be said about Cronenberg's 80's remake. The blu-ray itself features average at best video and lossless audio - maybe inherent to the dated 80's source, or maybe could one day be improved by a loving remaster - but certainly watchable and above DVD quality. Nice wealth of bonus material and the price during Halloween season was excellent!

Best Buy had this dual pack on an insanely good discount during the Halloween season. Both films feature solid video transfers and lossless 5.1 tracks. The special features are mostly SD, ported over from the DVD, but for fans there's some good stuff there. These aren't great films, certainly not up to par with the 70's original, but can be fun for that spooky time of year.

I have a Pono portable music player, for those who don't know this is sort of like an audiophile iPod, playing everything from MP3's to CD quality to more desired high resolution (i.e., 96khz/24-bit or 192khz/24-bit) files with very solid electronic insides such as a great digital to analogue converter. Long story short, this item has 64GB of internal storage as well as a slot for a micro-SD card. So I bought this 128GB card to help really expand my music library. It worked like a charm from day 1 and has continued to do so. I currently have well over 100GB on the card and it continues to work flawlessly. Would certainly recommend!

There's not much I can say about T2 other than it's arguably the greatest action film of all-time, and certainly on the short list of them. The steelbook is pretty rad, built around the classic image of flames and a T-800 in the center of them. There is NO inner-artwork on this steelbook, which will certainly disappoint some. However on this film, being the villain is the liquid metal T-1000, it doesn't feel as off as it would on another title. You can of course add your own artwork if you're into that sort of thing.
The blu-ray itself? A bit of a mixed bag. Back in the early 2000's T2 was given a 2K telecine scan for the "Extreme Edition" DVD, and that scan has been used for all T2 releases since. So the scan and resolution quality are a bit dated compared to more recent, say, 4K ARRISCAN's, and you can just compare it to the recent The Terminator blu-ray remaster that came out to see the difference. This particular edition also adds on too much DNR (digital noise reduction done in post) to the image for my taste, and the menu is a bit over complicated. That being said the image is certainly serviceable (until Cameron releases the 4K remaster - which is done) and the lossless 5.1 audio is as crisp and crackling as ever. The bonus material is pretty vast, though as I said, can be a little difficult navigating. Overall? For a T2 fan or a fan of steelbooks, this is recommended until a better T2 remaster services.
Written by, directed by and co-starring Tom Hanks, this high-energy comedy about fame and friendship dances on to Blu-ray for the very first time. Hanks plays the big-hearted manager of a 1960s pop-rock group called the Wonders that becomes a shooting-star sensation thanks to a delightfully catchy chart-topper called InchThat Thing You DoInch.

Tom Hanks stepped into the directors chair for this one, a fun film that any fan of music films (and certainly any fans of 60's music) will enjoy. It's the classic tale of a band that becomes nothing more than a one hit wonder.
The blu-ray features both the theatrical (my preferred, but your mileage may vary) and Hanks' directors cut of the film. The video isn't going to win any awards for it's presentation, and to it's credit the inherent image would be soft due to the lenses used, but it's a pretty weak transfer even if still yet, looks better than a recent playing on cable. The audio is better, with a 5.1 surround track (presented in lossless DTS-HD MA) that does a great job with sound field separation concerning music and ambience and dialogue, and really pumps up the films many montage sequences that are set to tunes. There's also some additional bonuses for fans of the film, and overall I'd say it's worth it to them - but only at the right price (which it was at the time in-store at BB with a musically related films end cap).
