Over the top action sequences, a chaotic film

I liked these actors but the film seemed so over the top that I got lost in all the heavy action sequences and the chaotic pace of the film. So maybe a little more story was needed, and some better writing would have made this film a little easier to take.

Luc Besson movies are always entertaining

I have been a big fan of this director since 'The Professional', so I eagerly looked forward to this new release. I was thinking it might be just another space adventure, I did like 'The Fifth Element'. But I think this movie was less over the top with its characters, and the movie focused on, and stayed close to telling a special tale. The films plot had to move in a linear way to better serve the tale which begins as somewhat of a mystery.
We begin the film on a very strange planet, a paradise that's about to be destroyed, The films story, though sometime meandering at times, was always visually entertaining and was well executed. I also liked the young cast members, and I hope that this movie has a sequel, because this cast worked well on screen. I recommend the movie and it was visually stunning at times in 4K.

Dracula a beautiful, yet sorrowful horror tale

A lesser known directed Francis Ford Coppola film, staring a really good cast, Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins and the always great Gary Oldman who plays a really scary Dracula. The films is a great omage to the original tale and early book. As the tale goes, In the 1400's Vlad Dracula returns from war to find his wife commited suicide, thinking he was killed in the war. He, Dracula then becomes enraged and desecrates the chapel and renounces his maker, declaring that he will rise from the grave and avenge his wifes death and the chruch that damned her for eternity for her suicide, by using the powers of darkness. He stabs at the chapel's holy stone cross with his sword, drinking the blood that pours out of it this act transform him from Vlad The Impailer to the King of Darkness, Dracula as he lurks the night to find his victums . This move will scare the stuffing out of you, even if you know the films basic story from its many Hollywood iterations from the 30's and the 50's. It breaks new ground in an adult way and is beautifuly filmed as well. Don't see it by yourself...

The original 'Monster' lives on in Skull Island

This movie was an unexpected build on the the now mythic history of Kong. Though set in the 70's it really moved the story forward in a new and fresh direction, Acting and casting was really well done, and the film was visually well crafted as well. So high marks all around. The 4K version was well processed and looked good projected on a 100 inch screen.

Camp factor is very high, but actors make it work

This movies story line is a metafore and way a head of its time since its about a homeless drifter who discovers a reason for the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor, turns out it's a conspiracy by non-human aliens.
He can see the aliens with these sun glasses he finds in the trash and the story gets interesting as no one else seems to see the alien conspiracy.
Ray Nelson wrote it and it was directed by the great John Carpenter back in 1988. It always looked very well filmed when I saw it on TV and it looks good on blu ray.
This film was considered a light weight as a Sci Fi movie in the 80's, and somewhat of a "campy, tongue in cheek" flick even back then. After all the primary hero in this movie was a real life wrestler, Roddy Piper.
But it turns out this is a really good modern story for our time, with a now-a-days narrative that rings true on many social levels. And the "lightness" of casting a non traditional actor as the cental hero even helps to keep you focused on the films true storyline. So overall it's a really good effort and it holds up after many decades and it will keep you wondering how it's all going to end. I liked it for all those reasons.

One of the most unique stories, love the actors

This is a favorate of mine, I first saw it in 1994 in the theater.
It's a bit of a qurky story, but I love the NY settings, and all the actors do a bang up job.
I think Gary Oldman really stands out as a bad guy, a corrupt NY detective on a murder spree.
So it flips the good guy, bad guy story upside down. With the mob hitman being decent guy who takes care of a wafe after the bad guys kill off her family. Natalie Portman is excellent as the young wafe, and Jen Reno plays "Leon, The Professional". The director Luc Bresson does a fine job telling this story. So what are you waiting for, go out an get this movie, plus it looks greater than ever in this 4K version! I own all the previous versions but this looks and sound the best.
