Bill Murray is excellent as the Scrooge figure, in this case, head of a TV network. The humor is dark & the cast is great. Makes a great double feature with NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION.

Set in Berlin days before the Wall is torn down, this espionage flick pits Charlize Theron against almost everyone. It’s a trust-no-one search for a secret list of all spy activities AND a sought-after double agent. Toby Jones & John Goodman play MI-6 & CIA supervisors & Alan McAvoy is pretty great as her wild & perhaps untrustworthy contact. The lighting/color schemes are fantastic looking & some great 80s new wave & synth pop songs pulse through the action. It’s directed by a stuntman & the hand-to-hand combat is brutal.

This is essentially CASTAWAY, but on Mars. That’s already more intriguing an idea to me than 3 hours with Tom Hanks & a beach ball on an island. There’s decent suspense & a slew of classic disco songs sprinkled throughout. Ridley Scott did this in the midst of rejoining the ALIEN saga, but to be sure, there are no aliens in this flick.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Dueling Michael Fassbender androids could be a movie unto itself. Throw in the threat of conspiracy, new & exotic strains of our favorite long-headed alien & a mad scientist plot and you've got quite an entertaining flick! This entry in the series doesn't beat out previous entries (in my book), but was great fun start to finish. Ridley Scott is developing his own mini-universe within the established ALIEN realm that his original film began & it's not a bad thing!
A young woman wakes up after a terrible accident to find that she's locked in a cellar with a doomsday prepper, who insists that he saved her life and that the world outside is uninhabitable following an apocalyptic catastrophe. Uncertain what to believe, the woman soon determines that she must escape at any cost. Movie stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr and Bradley Cooper.

John Goodman obviously runs the show (in all ways) here as a survivalist nut with the best bunker on the block. His own ulterior motives unfold with eerie, tension-building precision as we spend most of the movie trapped with him & his "guests" in said bunker. I love this as a sequel/tie-in to CLOVERFIELD, because it's nothing like that movie but manages to inhabit & expand upon that storyline uniquely.

Tim Burton demonstrated a keen understanding of B grade sci-fi crud (the best kind!) with ED WOOD, and MARS ATTACKS is a natural extension. A fantastic cast, great humor AND a fun alien invasion flick. A great movie for an affordable BluRay!
David Finchers THE SOCIAL NETWORK is the stunning tale of a new breed of cultural insurgent A punk genius who sparked a revolution and changed the face of human interaction for a generation, and perhaps forever. Shot through with emotional brutality and unexpected humor, this superbly crafted film chronicles the formation of Facebook and the battles over ownership that followed upon the websites unfathomable success. With a complex, incisive screenplay by Aaron Sorkin and a brilliant cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake, THE SOCIAL NETWORK bears witness to the birth of an idea that rewove the fabric of society even as it unraveled the friendship of it's creators.

That's what I thought when this David (SE7EN, ZODIAC) Fincher project was announced. I'm glad I went against my doubts! The Trent Reznor score is top notch & Jesse Eisenberg is perfect. The flick is reminiscent of classics like WALL STREET. I'm glad to see the blu-ray more easily & affordable found again!

How can Sly Stallone fail to entertain us when he's got Billy Dee Williams by his side (he shoulda been the star..) & Rutger Hauer to defeat? A cop vs terrorist actioner that has slipped away from mainstream eyes is back from the fabulous folks at Shout Factory.

Jordan Peele has mentioned the likes of ROSEMARY'S BABY & STEPFORD WIVES as influences & favorites & it shows in GET OUT. With enough of a twist for those of us who are familiar with the above classics, this flick refuses to rely on modern horror gimmicks & stereotypes. I hope this isn't Mr. Peele's only horror outing!

I don't think Mr. Reeves is a great actor. He's been great in a variety of classics: RIVER'S EDGE, BILL & TED, SPEED, THE MATRIX, etc. But in my humble opinion, he is most powerful as a well-played card. And John Wick is a perfect play. The first chapter was a hair better for me, but maybe that's because it had to create the character and set up the mayhem to come. That said, JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 is a non-stop barrage of car chase, gunplay & destruction that promises one thing: more to come! Like a classic middle chapter in a trilogy, we take our hero through intense struggle only to discover that he is far from free at the end! And yes, Chapter 3 seems to be in the works. Ian McShane is perfect again as the benevolent King of The Continental & Peter Stormare helps us get the ball rolling at the beginning. Common is fantastic as a deadly bodyguard. Basically, imagine the scenes in the MATRIX flicks when Neo was beset by piles of Agent Smiths, then replace Smith with a variety of assassins and underlings and set it in Rome & New York. Be excellent to yourself and get extra cheese for this pizza party.
