Do you need to connect to laptop for set up?
I have a Samsung Chrome book, would I be able to just plug in and be set?
I used a Windows laptop computer on a direct Ethernet connection to the router in order to set up & configure the wireless wi-fi settings. It took a few minutes.

will this work for time warner cable?
Yes, this Arris Motorola device works with Time Warner. Check with your cable Internet provider to confirm that it is still compatible.

IT WORKS WITH COX COMMUNICATIONS?
It works with Bright House, Time Warner, Comcast, and a long list of other cable Internet providers. Generally speaking, if the Arris device model number is listed on the COX CABLE list of compatible modems, then you should be fine. Check with your cable provider.

3 wireless connections
When setting up unit, there are 2.5 & 5 - connecting IPad 2, Samsung pad, & older lap-top running MS Vista. I am guessing IPad & Samsung @ 5 and lap-top 2.5 ----- is that feasible, or is it one or the other?
It depends on if your device is newer to lock on to the 5GHz wi-fi signal from the wireless router. Check your device's specifications. If it was built after 2013 and has wi-fi 802.11ac then it should be able to receive/transmit on the unlicensed 5GHz signal from this Arris Motorola modem router.
