I bought this to use for an extended trip to India. It has been working well so far with the SIM cards here. The only thing that I noticed was that the camera tends to take fuzzy pictures. A bit of image stabilization and quicker focus would have helped.

I used to own an Escort Passport 7500 and this seemed to be a good replacement for it. But it was a total disappointment. In the course of a 650 mile trip it "cried wolf" so many times that we ended up unplugging it. With my 7500, anytime there were short intense blips of K band, it meant that there was a handheld radar being used somewhere ahead. But with this 8500, it did that short bursts all the time for entire stretches as along as 12 miles, with not a bogey in sight. I tried going into city mode to see if it would clear up the clutter and it did not. Also the device would switch between dim and bright mode by itself. I returned it the next day. I am not sure if the one i got was bad or Escort is starting to produce junk. I will probably try a V1 and see if it works
