The 4K disc is worth the money. Gives you the option to watch the extended cut which was a pleasant experience. The added picture definition of 4K plus the punch brought by UHD made watching this movie a whole new experience. Ended up liking this more than I thought I would. BTW I already owned the blue ray so there was some hesitation involved in making the decision to buy this. However, if you own a 4K TV and blue ray player its worth the upgrade. Cheers!

This receiver goes one (maybe two) better than the SC 99. The chief benefit is that it has 5 HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI 2.0 inputs. The set-up using the on-screen menu is very complete and makes the room calibration straight forward. However, you may find it necessary to re-calibrate a few times to get everything perfect. The audio (Atmos/DTS-X) seemed to function well. The Ap makes seeing what's going on more intuitive. Video processing is what you would expect for equipment at this price point. Overall, I'd recommend this unit. Match it with the Oppo UDP-203 and a really good OLED TV and you're there....

The SC99 has a feature rich set of options for every level of user. I recommend using the Magnolia people if you are installing an Atmos based system. Also, be advised that only 2 hdmi ports are hdcp 2.2. If you have more that two sources that require 2.2 then you'll need to buy a separate hdmi sharing device. The unit has met all my needs and would recommend to anyone who is not wanting to compromise. Both audio and video features/software are extensive and complete. The Ipad Ap is very useful once everything is set-up and going.

Make no mistake about it, this is a top quality receiver. The 4K aspect is a pass-through.
However, that can be important if you are interested in using the receiver for all your 4k input devices. The 801 has at least 4 HDCP 2.2 HDMI ports.
As far a picture quality goes, I recommend (highly) that you consider a professional calibration. I have the 78 in curved Samsung and it made a unbelievable improvement to the image quality that I was seeing. If you are a video enthusiast the money will be a minor issue compared to the benefit you will see. The receiver is first rate. My recommendation (if you buy it) would be to run the room calibration. Once you've become accustomed to the sound, then I recommend that you modify the multi-channel sound to your preference. The software will make switching back and forth (for comparison) easy. Another suggestion I'd offer is to be patient with yourself and the set-up process. I've had my set-up for a while and am just now getting things the way I like them. Overall very satisfied at this point. Regards....
