My 15-year old daughter started watching this in my boss' office and liked what she saw so much that she wanted me to buy the blu-ray. Anytime you can bond over a movie with your daughter is a good thing. Funny, poignant, sad (and yes, a bit maudlin at times), "Forrest Gump" is one of those movies that's a must-have for your movie collection.
When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team - led by expert codebreaker Louise Banks (Amy Adams) - is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers - and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

Didn't know what to expect when I bought it. Yes, it's sci-fi and there are aliens but that's not what drives the film. It's the decisions we make and the love that makes us human. Watched it several times within a week's time. Highly recommended.

Yeah, I'm an MCU junkie. So is my teenage daughter. What's wrong with this movie? Not much. Chris Pratt is the perfect Star Lord, Zoe Saldana is salacious as Gamora, Dave Bautista gets to embarrass his share of characters, Bradley Cooper's Rocket is still a furry jerk on the outside (but a little bowl of mush on the inside), Michael Rooker shines as Yondu, and Baby Groot gets his share of laughs and "awwwws." And hey! You've got Kurt "Snake Plissken" Russell as Ego! Kurt's performance alone was worth the cost of my Blu-ray. My only disappointment was Karen Gillan as Nebula and Sly Stallone as Stakar. Nebula didn't come across as badass as the first installment and Sly's Stakar came off as, well, just about every character he's ever played. Fun little popcorn movie that you can't help but laugh along with.

I've been wanting this movie ever since it came out in 2012 but got cold feet reading reviews of it at the time. Well, the holidays came, the price was right, I had some extra cash so I went ahead and bought it. All I can say is, if you're a fan of Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain", you'll probably enjoy "Cloud Atlas" whereas both jump around with their timelines. It may take you two or three viewings to follow the minor nuances of the storyline (that is, if you don't cheat and Google the plot.) It is a long movie, clocking in at almost three hours. It also shifts constantly from action to drama to science fiction. If you're the type that doesn't want to scratch your head after one viewing, you may want to pass on it. I personally found it engaging.
Play your favorite movies on this LG Blu-ray player. It supports Dolby TrueHD and DigitalPlus technologies to bring the audio from films to life, and the Ethernet port lets it connect your home network to stream content. This LG Blu-ray player has a USB port, so you can play your film and music library.

A close female friend was having problems with her 10-year old Sony blu-ray player. All she told me was that she wanted "something simple that's easy to operate." All her movies were in DVD form but she was ready to switch over to Blu-ray. Having dealt with nothing but Oppo over the years, I was a little lost where other lower models are concerned. After doing my homework, I decided on the LG-BP175. It was an easy set-up and the price was right. She even mentioned the simplicity of it. Absolutely no problems with it.

The price drop was too good not to pass up. I remember paying twice as much for my first 55" Samsung flat screen five years ago and that was after doing an exhaustive eight-month web search. Unless you have an eye for extreme detail, this model will fill the bill. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of this model's plastic border that encompasses the screen (somewhat flimsy in my opinion) and the fact it only has two HDMI ports.
