Allied is the latest film from Director Robert Zemeckis and stars Brad Pitt and Oscar Winner Marion Cotillard as spies and eventual lovers during WWII. It's a great looking and entertaining thriller that you don't know where it's headed until the very end. A true throwback thriller that will remind many of the Golden Age films Hollywood used to make in the 40's and 50's as well as the 60's to some extent. Allied is very engaging and thrilling in everyway.

The movie is one that really got lost in the shuffle of many films late in the year that included Oscar darling La La Land amongst others. Warren Beatty's long awaited return to the big screen after 15 years as well as being co-writer, producer and director on the film. The film is about the legendary billionare Howard Hughes and his major influences and his rather eccentric personality that affected everyone around him including his well meaning chauffer (Alden Erenreich of the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars spinoff), a country bumpkin (Lily Collins) who's just arrived in Hollywood and his assistants (Matthew Broderick and Candice Bergen). The film is well cast and joyous to look at but also feels a little heavy and lacking on humor at times. Beatty definitely still has the chops as a director, but it is easy to see why the movie really didn't do anything on the big screen. Definitely recommended as an engaging curiosity with a solid cast and for those who like films of the golden age era of Hollywood.

This is the long awaited sequel to the hit, Bad Santa in which Oscar Winner Billy Bob Thronton played Willie Soak, a two bit alcoholic thief who's partner (Tony Cox) is a pint sized thief with woman hang ups. At the end of the original film, Willie was almost killed and lived as his partner and his wife, try to kill him and make out with the money they stole during Christmas. He is now living a rather meaningless life in upstate New York and still being followed by Thurman Murman (Brett Kelly), the kid who still believes he's Santa Claus and then while trying to off himself, Willie is reunited with his partner for another robbery in Chicago this time headed by Willie's own mom (Oscar Winner Kathy Bates) who he really hates more than his partner. The plan is to rob a charity headed by a goody wife (Mad Men's Christina Hendricks) and her philandering husband (Ryan Hansen) of over 2 million dollars during Christmas Eve. Soon the trio encounter alot problems including each other, Willie's distain for the job, his partners' affections for an overweight woman security guard and of course, Thurman who comes chasing after Willie. The film isn't as good as the original or has the energy that one has but there are alot of big laughs in it. Bates steals the movie from Thronton with her horrible demeanor and Hendricks does loosen up to have fun during the film as well. Not a masterpiece but a worthy and gestating sequel.

Doctor Strange is easily one of Marvel's best and light hearted creations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe next to the likes of Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. The story is about Dr. Stephen Strange (Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch) a rich and wealthy surgeon who uses his talents to heal, but when an accident renders his hands useless, he travels to Asia where he is taken in by the Ancient One (Oscar Winner Tilda Swinton) and learns to use powers a mindbending capability. His training will be put to the test when goes up against a rogue pupil (Mads Makkelsen) who wants to bring fourth the dark dimension and destroy everything on Earth. Strange also rekindles his love for Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachael McAdams) while being chosen as the new protector. While not exactly being one of the A-Listers of the Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange is an important character that does intertwine with the other MCU characters and will play a big part in the next two upcoming Marvel films, Thor: Ragnarok and The Avengers: Infinity War. The film is a visual feast of marvelous effects and great performances. Definitely one of the more fun entries of the Marvel Universe. Also, stay for the End Credits...there's always Easter Eggs that lead to other Marvel films.
When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team - led by expert codebreaker Louise Banks (Amy Adams) - is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers - and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

Arrival is a film you'll either like or hate and for those who loved Interstellar, you'll love it. Arrival is essentially the final half hour of the classic Steven Spielberg film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the humans communicate with the aliens on board the ship. The film is slow and patient in its' excecution with Oscar nominees Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner as scientists who are recruited by the Military and NASA scientists trying to decipher what extraterrestrial forces are inside 12 pods located stragtically all over the world are doing and why they are here on Earth. Without giving out too much away, the film is visually stunning and well acted by Adams, Renner and Oscar Winner Forest Whitaker as the tough but fair military liason. Director Denis Villenueve makes a thought provoking film that will leave you in suspense throughout.

Well done and stylish entry into the DC Comics animated entries that continues to be more diverse and tight storywise unlike their cinematic counterparts. JLD is ripe for a live action on the future but in the meantime, this is a great introduction to other side of the Justice League as never been seen before.

An unforgettable film that still resonates with audiences today. It defines the late 1980's and early 1990's and has inspired films such as Menace II Society, South Central along with current ones including Dope and Kicks.
