We could only get off the hot water pipe, so installed only one of it ... the cold water old pipe wont come off ... despite trying very hard.
But I am not sure if metal is better over plastic, because metal corrodes !

the normal cycles work fine, needs HE washing liquid .. cant go with powder.
Quick cycles wont get rid of stuff from clothes like if your child puked or something like that.... for those you have to go the non-water sense route and do the extra rinse.

purchased it, because my 15 year old washer died, but the high efficiency caused it to leave soapiness in there even after 2 rinses. So we returned it. May be because of some bad sensor, anyways I was not happy with the rinse feature.
