Pacific Rim is the stuff of "man versus giant monsters" childhood playtime on a Hollywood A-film budget and it surprisingly delivers! Yes, the story and characters could be right out of a comicbook, BUT that's part of its charm. You get flawed, but mostly likeable protagonists in their big war machines trying to save mankind from giant beasts sent to earth as a prelude to invasion (their masters' plans harken back to those of the ID4 aliens) and when things begin to deteriorate quickly you hope the "Oliver & Hardy"-like comedy relief scientist duo can find a solution to save the day. If you've ever enjoyed Godzilla, any Ray Harryhausen flick, Ultraman, Johnny Socko & His Flying Robot, Transformers or the like, chances are you will thoroughly enjoy this!... At least as much as it appeared that Ron Perlman enjoyed playing Hannibal Chau. ;) If that's not your bag, but you enjoy super hero movies, you may like it as well - at least for the characters and action. The end credits tribute to Ishiro Honda and Ray Harryhausen is most appropriate. :)

What's great about it: Feature-length gigantic robots vs gigantic monsters homage to Ishiro Honda & Ray Harryhausen
What's not so great: Predictable comicbook-like characters/storylines, but then are you surprised? Relax & enjoy the ride.

Every Star Trek fan (especially of the original TV series) should see this. It's a great fun-filled, self-effacing look at a legendary sci-fi show, long out of production, its actors trapped in their characters by their legions of fans and seeing no future in their careers but endless "Cons" and PR events... Until one day they're confronted with Thermians, extra-terrestrials who believe the actors to be the actual heroes they portray, and the their race's last hope for survival. Action and Trek in-jokes abound as these actors find themselves aboard a real, fully-functional replica of their ship from the show and facing the Thermians' merciless enemy. One bent on obtaining the mysterious Omega13 device from the ship and eliminating the last of the Thermians in a single final assault.
This Blu-ray has some nice extras, BUT if you already have the 2009 Blu-ray release this edition apparently does NOT have any new additions, so don't bother "double-dipping."
Galactopedia (created by Michael and Denise Okuda of "Star Trek" fame) allows you to access info on aspects of the film during playback.
Historical Documents: The Story of 'Galaxy Quest' (480p, 18:13) features cast & crew talk about the film, the "Star Trek" and sci-fi influences (in reality & as entertainment) that influenced the film both as "parody" & "homage," etc.
Never Give Up, Never Surrender: The Intrepid Crew of the NSEA 'Protector' (480p, 23:27): Cast & crew interviews regarding their performance & their characters. By Grabthar's Hammer, What Amazing Effects (480p, 7:02) A quick look at the makeup, sets & effects. Alien School: Creating the Thermian Race (480p, 5:22) A briefing on the Thermians & the actors. Actors in Space (480p, 6:09), a fun short focusing on the cast portrayals of stereotypical actors Sigourney Weaver Raps (480p, 1:59): Yes, she performs a rap song with a couple of her co-stars... Also, a collection of eight deleted scenes (480p, varied runtimes), a Thermian language audio track - try setting this up prior to a group viewing, with English subtitles turned on - it's fun - for a bit anyway. ;) Lastly, and the film's theatrical trailer (1080p, 1:55).

What's great about it: The cast/characters & laughs aplenty especially for Trek fans
What's not so great: No new content, just a re-release of the 2009 Dreamworks BD release
The Alien legacy is more vivid than ever before in this six-disc Blu-Ray collection featuring Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection as you've never seen them before. In addition to offering the theatrical versions of each film, the "Director's Cut" of Alien, and the "Special Edition" versions of each of the other films are also included.

I count myself among those who loved the original (creepy, haunted house in space) and thoroughly enjoyed Aliens ("Let's roooock!"), but after that... *fizzle* Until this set is greatly reduced in price OR is split so that I can purchase the features individually, I'm not spending $95 (on sale?!) for the two I will watch.
If these had been split into a pair of box sets, with the first two flicks in one, this would be a 5-star all the way.. But, then I figure 20th Century Fox knew this and may be the reason you have to get all four. ;)
For those who like Resurrection, I understand the director was not invited to the HD remaster and fans are finding it the worst of the four in terms of picture quality.
What's great about it: ALIEN & ALIENS
What's not so great: Price when you don't like Alien3 or Alien Resurrection

By far the best samurai film I've ever seen, yet Kurosawa doesn't present a simple sword-slashing film. This is all about the people, their character and personalities. This has it all: humor, love, hate, honor, duty, etc. The included booklet and extras do a very nice job of giving, those not familiar with Akira Kurosawa or his work, a good overview of the man and his influences (like director John Ford).
What's great about it: Story, characters, visuals and, yes, the battles!
What's not so great: Long running time, BUT once you're watching you don't notice!
