How to replace the charcoal filter?
We like the design of the vent, however, we could not find anything in the instructions of how to replace the charcoal filter. It is supposedly located inside the top vent. How do we change it? Please answer only for this model.
Usually the charcoal filter is located behind that flat plate above the door, which is the front of the vent port, but a few may have them behind the silver grates on the bottom. Check this first before proceeding to the upper area of micro. You'll need a step stool and a phillips screw driver or cordless drill. I find the cordless is better because it does the work for you and has a magnetic tip. Be careful not to drop screws into vent or it may be hard to get them out. Don't go crazy with the drill, just ease them out. First, open the micro door wide. Just behind the vent port there should be 2-4 screws on top of unit (almost up against the cabinet frame) that look like they hold the unit casing on. Removing them should allow you to remove the vent cover and the filter will be behind it. Some filters clip in and some just slide in. Be very careful removing the vent cover as well, because sometimes they only have plastic tabs or clips to realign upon reinstallation, and they could break off. Some vent covers pull out, some slide sideways before removal, and sometimes the door itself will make it seem tough to remove the cover. Just take your time and all should be good. I would recommend pulling a PDF file on this model if you can't find your install manual. It should show you step by step how to do this. If you're uncomfortable doing this, please call a technician the first time and watch them do it first. Hope this helps.

is there an over the range microwave with the vent in front vs the top?
Older units used to have the venting visible on the front grill. They changed that so smoke and greasy air wouldn't blow in your face, plus it looks nicer. Most newer units now divert the air flow up past the doors above the unit, if the motor is set for "recirculating" the air from the bottom filters through a charcoal filter. If you need the air flow to escape through the ceiling or the back wall, most motors are very easily turned simply by taking off the vent cover plate, pull the motor out and turn in the direction you need, then replace holding plate and screws. No electrical knowledge needed to do this. Basically all these microwaves have 3 vent directions, backwards, upwards, and forwards. The forward does not need a damper kit or vent pipe. The other two do and you may need an installer to hook it up properly. Hope this info helps. I'm a private kitchen remodeler and hang these units all the time.

If I have 30" to use on the left side of the microwave there is a partition that comes out past the microwave, will the door still open?
These microwaves are not intended for installation right next to walls or cabinetry that are deeper than the microwave off the back wall. When you open the door, the door is usually wider than the 30" dimension of the unit itself. It's meant to be installed between two cabinets and under a shorter cabinet, but only secures to the bracket that comes with it for wall mounting and either 2 or 3 screws that you fasten from above in cabinet. You could probably get away with only having a minimum of 1 1/2" space before wall on the hinge side of unit if space is at a premium. Most of the units hinge on the left. If you have 30" before you hit anything deeper than the micro, you should be safe. The micro doors usually have a set stop angle on them as well. They don't just swing freely. I'm a kitchen remodeler, so I hang these all the time. I don't work for Bestbuy either. Hope this helps.
