Great UPS for Power Desktop

The unit was originally purchased for a small server. But, due to change, was placed on a high end HP workstation. The UPS works well providing 45 minutes of up time. Had trouble initially with false positive outages due to another motorized device on the same electrical circuit. This was not a problem with the earlier UPS. So it appears this unit is much more sensitive. We solved the problem by moving the motorized unit to another outlet. So far unit is working well.

This drive replaces a failed Seagate Barracuda drive that failed within 2 years. The rated reliability of this drive exceeds the increased price tag. Drive worked as expected and, if life of drive is as stated, I should be happy with this drive for several years.

What it the battery's voltage? Is there a way to hook an external battery to it to allow longer run-time?
I'd like to use it in a motorhome and have the 12 volt batteries as the back-up power source. That would allow me to run the motorhome off AC when parked and off the UPS when driving.
My experience with this is NO. I have tried using a gasoline generator to power the UPS during power outages and it DOES NOT WORK. I suspected that would be true because of the circuit design. (Square wave, sine wave, etc). But I proved it outage. Battery won't charge on generator and some devices won't even power on when the UPS is running from the generator. This is not an exact answer to your question. But I think my experience with a generator parallels your motorhome need.

is the POE ethernet connection protected against surge or this device only extend the power time?
The unit is guaranteed against surges with an insurance policy. The implication is that it protects against all surges. Most POE switches have built-in circuitry to protect the POE devices. If you have a power injector attached to the UPS, I would expect it to be protected as well. However, injectors, by their design, have little patience for wild power fluctuations. I can't say for sure if the protection would protect the injector. But I don't know why it couldn't/wouldn't. Hope this helps.

Can I purchase a replacement battery for this UPS (APC Back-UPS XS1300))? What is the part number? Can I buy it from Best Buy? Price?
Yes, you can purchase batteries on the internet from many sources. Just use the manufacturer and model #. Best Buy, to my knowledge, does not sell them. You can get replacement batteries that are equal or higher capacity. The unit ships with a 7aH battery. I've replaced units with 9aH with success. The higher capacity will provide a few more minutes of up time. The part# is usually found on the battery. It may be under an OEM label which was put on the battery for resale. In Erie, PA, there is a local battery store (Google it) that sells the replacement battery from their store front. Not as cheap as online. But, if you need it now, not an unreasonable price.
