The other guy who reviewed this must not be open minded to hear new music from a band. Lamb of God still is as heavy as ever and presents an album with a different kind of sound. They are still noticeably the same band but evolving which is why they remain the top heavy metal band out there today. Just as Wrath and Sacrament before that gave a new sound for the evolving band so does Resolution. Any true heavy metal fan should not be afraid to pick this one up. Of course get their other stuff too but this one is just as great.

Though the daylight exteriors are much closer to the original approved masters from John Carpenter, the nighttime scenes -- about 3/4 of the movie -- still just aren't right. The effective blue-orange complimentary color palette is white-washed away, and though fleshtones may be more "accurate," this is just not the 'Halloween' it should be. As a longtime fan of 'Halloween' -- and as someone who feels strongly that the filmmaker's intentions should always be sacrosanct -- I take particular issue with the decision to yet again utilize a compromised master that's been disowned by John Carpenter himself for this release. If you want the nicest Carpenter approved film, look for the out-of-print THX-certified copy on DVD and don't bother with the Blu-Ray.
What's great about it: The movie is in 1080p hi-def resolution.
What's not so great: Use of a master not approved by John Carpenter

Death Proof is an awesome movie, no doubt about it. It is classic Tarantino's homage to the great slasher films, need I say more? The other reviews have said it all. The movie was awesome in theaters, but I can't imagine that it would be the same without Planet Terror (and vice versa for Planet Terror). Grindhouse is one movie itself. Seeing the cheesy grindhouse "coming attractions" was just as much fun as either of the movies. As the two movies were homages from Rodriguez and Tarantino in full length, the trailers were just as good homages by top directors Rodriguez (for a real movie to be released staight to DVD called Machete), Tim Roth (of Cabin Fever and Hostel fame), Rob Zombie (of House of 1000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects, and the remake of Halloween fame), and Edgar Wright (of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz fame) and included some surprising star appearances. Included as well was an "ad" for a fake restaurant called Acuña Boys. Then there was (what most would say is a minor detail but very BIG detail for me) the 80s style announcement of "Coming Attractions" and "Feature Film" with the elevator type music, the hard cut in and out of the short reel and audio, and the psychadelic colored background (much like what was found at the beginning of Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses). Taking these small but VERY memorable bits away would be like cutting off the nose of the movie, a very small part of the body of work but also very important for the full sensory experience. I will recommend to anyone that can stand to wait another moment for the movie on video (I hope I can) the HD-DVD version which will be the COMPLETE Grindhouse with BOTH Death Proof and Planet Terror along with all of the trailers and other goodies seen in the movie theater, preserving the great experience that was had by many (but far too few people) in the movie theater. As well, HD-DVD exclusives are said to include an additional fake trailer by Jason Eisener, John Davies, and Rob Cotterill for the movie Hobo with a Shotgun (Robert Rodriguez's the South by Southwest Grindhouse award winner) previously seen only in theaters in Canada and select theaters in the United States. The HD-DVD will be THE edition to own for the superior audio and video quality (the grittiness in high-def!) and THE TRUE, FULL Grindhouse movie. This HD-DVD has been confirmed for release later this year. No date has been set but can be found through High Def Digest.
