The sound quality is very good and much improved over the sound from my TV. You should note that no optical cable was included. The device is "smart" and interacts with my TV, which leads to a bit of confusion. I have to turn the device on with it's own remote but it knows to shut itself off when I turn the TV off.

The cable worked fine and no problems. I had not used an optical cable before, and some instructions on dust caps and how to ensure a good connection would have been helpful. Also, some notes on keeping the cable ends clean and what would contaminate them would have also been helpful.

A nice compact unit with good features. I was able to set it up and have it play DVDs in just a few minutes. The menus and controls for the internet and "smart" features was a bit confusing, so some patience is needed in using the full capability of this device.
