Quick & Easy; great to have in always-messy areas
on May 29, 2019
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
It's very quick & easy to whip out the Fluffy and take care of areas of the house that are constantly in need of cleaning (kitchen, dining area, pantry, etc).
The mounting method left a bit to be desired as they assume everybody's outlet will be below, instead of the ability to run the cord out the top - a Dremel took care of fixing this for me, carving out a nice hole in the top for me to run the charging cable. It's nice that this mount comes with the anchors & screws so you don't have to go shopping for those.
Length of time you can clean on "max suction" mode leaves a little to be desired, but with the intent of this vacuum presumably being quick jobs, it's not surprising.
The head of this unit pivots *very* easily, so much so that often my wrist gets fatigued using it for any real length of time; I find it whipping about if I'm not paying close attention to how I maneuver it. If you have arthritis or other joint issues, I can see this being bothersome.

Helps build good habits!
on May 13, 2019
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
Features I use:
* Filtering
* Bedtime (time windows)
These two things together help me to keep my kids safe online and make sure they aren't waking up early or staying up late just to play online. I also block the Echo Dots in each of their rooms at bedtime so they're not up all night playing music, etc. This all helps to build good habits and keep "tech addiction" in check.
I haven't used the reward system in the app yet, but at a cursory glance it's too binary - simply shutting off the bedtime internet cutoff vs just extending it for a certain period of time.
Circle is nice in that it alerts you when a new device logs in to your network, helping to keep neighbors from jumping on your wifi if they happen to know your password for one reason or another. However, when it alerts you there's a new device, clicking on the notification doesn't take you to that device's properties so you can add it to a profile, pause it, etc. Additionally you can't just pause a single device; you have to add it to a profile in order to do so.
So, the device & tech are solid, but I feel the app needs additional thought/work hence no 5 stars here.
Don't forget, with this device you'll be downloading the "Circle Smart Parental Controls" app - not the "Circle with Disney" or "Circle Home" apps. This stalled me for a few days after getting this as I just couldn't get it set up with the previous app I'd used to configure Circle on my NetGear router!

Finally a universal remote for my Roku!
on April 30, 2019

Been waiting forever for this! This Harmony Express fully controls my Roku Streaming Stick (2nd gen) AND my Samsung TV! The integration with Alexa is also pretty cool. It basically sets up your Roku and TV under a "Scene" in your Alexa Smart Home area. Very clever. This allows for "Turn on/off Master Bedroom", etc.
It also does quite well at launching apps on the Roku and isn't just for the "top apps" like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video. Instead it appears to correctly voice-recognize any name you give it, but I've had some issues with channels like the Xfinity Stream Beta which don't properly launch. However I'm able to launch things like ABC, NBC, NickJr, and even DisneyNow just by saying their name.
Additionally they correctly program the Home, Back, and "hamburger" menus to fully control the Roku exactly as you'd expect; it's everything you need!
Overall I'm really impressed with this device. I'm anxious for future improvements in voice recognition to make it 100% reliable for my Roku.
I like this so much I may get more for my other Roku-stick setups in my house - I'm curious how more than one on the same Amazon account will work, though.

Great sound in a small package w/ a big battery
on April 12, 2019
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
Battery life is pretty stellar. It's also very cool that sound comes out both the front and back of the unit. As a "buyer beware" this thing charges with USB-C, not the typical USB Micro that most smartphones today still use. That said, the battery is also very big so takes a while for the first charge to fill it up. The bass + treble adjustment honestly doesn't do much; I barely noticed any difference when tweaking the knobs from lowest -> highest. But the sound that did some out was full & it could get very loud. We plan on using it when we go camping to provide some ambience at the campground while we chill around the fire! It's very portable so it's perfect for this.

Great sound, awesome features

Thing really fills indoor spaces with sound and offers plenty of volume outdoors to get the party started. Additionally the FM tuner, Bluetooth, and Aux in all work very well. I was skpetical that the FM tuner would pick up any stations as sometimes these things can be pretty weak, but it works perfectly both indoors and outdoors. Its size makes it big enough for good sound, but small enough to move around as you like - it doesn't weigh alot either. It's a great patio addition when you've got friends over and just want some ambience!

Comfortable, great sound, great recording
on March 21, 2019

These headphones will definitely stand up to hours of gaming without making your glasses hurt around your ears or just make you want to "take a break" from them. Additionally the sound is awesome and the recording from the mic is dang near professional quality! The separate driver is hooked up via USB *mini* which was a little odd, but it came with the cable so no big deal there. It does *require* the occupation of one USB port so just be cognizant of that when you purchase.
They worked perfectly as a headset for my Surface Studio when plugged in to the provided driver as well as when plugged in to an Xbox controller paired to the Studio.
My only wish is that they would be noise-cancelling for this price; hence 4 vs 5 stars

Great shaver but 2 blades gets a little sketchy
on August 27, 2018
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
Shaver performs well both dry and wet (in shower). The extension handle is a little gimmicky but I imagine it would work well for taller folks (I haven't had much cause to use it).
Aside from the typical shave screen (for closeness) it also has *two* shave blade ends (reciprocating blades) which can get a little scary depending on where you're trying to shave. Their thinking is to go both forward and backward instead of one-way when shaving. The guides also reflect this ability but I found they had too much friction and I was left "skidding" when trying to slide them.
Overall the ability to shave both wet/dry is definitely a plus, and the closeness is decent.

Otherwise it just adds yet another app to your smartphone in order to use them. There's no SmartThings integration either.
Overall they were easy to install & use and work great, just am hating this lack of a "standard way" to do all things home automation and having to install app after app after app for those that don't support SmartThings

The laptop is hefty, for sure, but whatever performance it might give you is bogged down by the crapware you're used to from Acer by now (see photo for what Start Menu looks like immediately after unboxing).
NitroSense software comes pre-installed, but after a wipe of the machine (to alleviate the crapware problem) I found there's no place to re-download it. Awesome.
Outside the software experience, the hardware is good. It's only got an i5 but the extra graphics card helps out nicely. The screen is awesome and delivers black blacks and vibrant colors. In addition, USB-C, full HDMI, and built-in ethernet are all welcome additions to your typical laptop form factor.
Battery life on a full charge with no gaming usage is routinely around the 2-hour mark.

GENIUS

NOTE: This mousepad doesn't charge over its entire surface; only on the designated charging spot in the upper-right corner of the pad.
The LED tells you when it's lined up, but some haptic feedback in the pad itself would be more evident & immediate.
Weird & inconvenient it takes up *two* USB ports on my PC. Appreciate that it has a passthrough on the pad itself to help out w/ that problem, though.
The added Qi charging dongle is awesome; now any usb, usb-c, or lightning device I have can be charged via the Qi spot on the pad!
Huge mousepad; don't have to worry about going off the edges or lifting & repositioning like on classic pads

Enjoy big-screen entertainment with this Epson 3LCD portable projector. All-digital HDMI connectivity lets you stream from a variety of devices, and 3,300 lumens of equal color and white brightness let you use it in almost any lighting condition. This Epson 3LCD projector lets you view images up to 25 times larger than those on a 60-inch TV.

Can you plug your android cell phone into it and play movies from your cell phone to the projector?

If you're going in to any of the provided video ports (HDMI, VGA, etc) then yes. Not just via USB though; that's out/charging only.

Does it hurt to have the RF-WHTIB wireless rear speaker system plugged into its own power supply and "on" all the time?

Certainly not, mine was plugged in to a separate outlet and always on for a number of years and I never had issues with it.

Powered sub output?

Is there an output for my powered sub?
If your powered sub accepts speaker-wire inputs, then yes this could work for that. But it does only have two channels. so you're not going to get your L and R rears, PLUS the sub output if that's what you're wondering.

all the inputs and outputs of the system are speaker wire only, though - no RCA (which some powered subs only take)

Can this be used with a side speaker and a rear speaker instead to two rear speakers?

Sorry for such a dumb question, but I had to ask since the back of the unit shows L/R for Left and Right. I do not have a problem with wiring left side of the room, but right side involves crossing two doors. Can I install the unit such that it services one right side speaker and one right rear speaker?
I see no reason why not. It simply transmits the signal for two channels; whatever those may be. as long as it can hit the "receiving" part of the unit, just plug the L and R lines accordingly and you should be able to get just what you're looking for.

Does the Rocketfish Wireless Rear Speaker Kit work with an RCA RT2906 home theater system?

I'm not sure on this particular home theatre system, but I can explain why they call it universal and perhaps that'll help you.

Basically if you have speaker wire coming out of your receiver, then you just plug that speaker wire in to the "sender" of the unit, and then put the "receiver" of the unit wherever your rear speakers are going to sit and plugs those in w/ their speaker wire.

The one downside is that the receiving unit has to be plugged in via A/C (wall plug) and is not battery powered; somewhat of a pain and faux pas on their part in the design. I'd have liked to see it powered by C/D batteries so that it could be completely disconnected.

on Blu-Ray titles video specs

why do some have 1080P while others have AVC @ 26 MBPS
AVC would seem to suggest that they were not originally filmed at HD resolutions. AVCHD is a format you can use to encode videos not HD quality on to a blu-ray disc to play on HD players. I have not seen such a movie - can you specify the title of what you're seeing AVC & 26MBPS on?

Where to find 3D movies and how do you tell they are 3D?

I have a 60" dlp set with the 3D glasses from Nvidia, it's fun for games but I would like to try watching a movie in 3D, but I am not sure where I could by the special DVDs/blurays for it, since they have to have a special format for the player to display them in 3D
If these are the "old" red/blue glasses, then no. If these are powered, Active Scan glasses, then there's a good chance you'll be able to use them w/ the new equipment. I do not yet know of any movies out in 3D, but the players do exist as I'm sure you already know. Early indications say that you will have to have glasses that match your 3d SET in order for it to work (panasonic glasses -> panasonic TV, etc). Your DLP set is likely not the new 3d standard that has been developed, so I don't think you can expect to see 3d content from the players/movies that are coming out on it.
