THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL recounts the adventures of GUSTAVE H., a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars; and ZERO MOUSTAFA, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting; a raging battle for an enormous family fortune; a desperate chase on motorcycles, trains, sleds, and skis - all against the backdrop of a suddenly and dramatically changing continent.

The encode on this disc is excellent at faithfully reproducing the multiple ratios of this meticulously shot film. Sound quality is also very good. This story-within-a-story-within-a-story is not for everyone but I find it compelling, fun, and a little melancholy. I’m looking forward to the eventual Criterion rerelease as a fully loaded special edition but, at the right price.(that’s subjective, too) this is a great disc in the meantime.

Quality Audio, Reasonable Price... but get warrant

Long story short, the search for Bluetooth earbuds with a fairly flat (meaning unequalized) was not easy or fun. Of four pairs purchased, these were the best for overall audio. If yo're a "basshead" I'd recommend these over more "bass-heavy" earbuds. Why? Well, the app allows for LOTS of customized equalizing. Better you do it then the earbuds do it automatically because some recordings are already bass-heavy and you'll end up with nastily distorted audio. Okay, enough on that. I also tried Jay Birds' Freedoms. Their smaller drivers were noticeably thinner audio-wise. No good whether you're a basshead or, like me, more of a flathead. That's not a term and it doesn't sound nice, but whatever. The only issue I had was after the first month (still during the generous Xmas holiday return period) the Bluetooth stopped connecting. Period. At all. To anything. Fortunately for me, they were willing to do an exchange and the new price was $20 cheaper, making the warranty arguably free.
Design-wise, nothing much to write. Use the rubbery gels for better audio and make sure they go into your ear snugly. Personally, I really like the cord. It's the first genuinely tangle-free I've ever had and it makes them harder to lose. The art of losing isn't hard to master.
Do these rival my wired headphones (Vmoda)? No, but they're good enough. They also make applesauce out off Apple's earpods.

This is a slow burn. Period. It's not to everyone's taste. It's also essential if you like modern science fiction films because, like Star Wars, it casts a long shadow by having influenced so much since.
What's hard to evaluate is that Warner Brothers skimped and didn't include ALL the discs in the excellent 2007 Blu-ray set. What's frustrating is that, because of some distribution error, the one disc they officially removed isn't always the one not in the set. Meaning that some sets have slightly different content. Is there a replacement program? Dunno. Either way, one should seek out the 5-disc Blu-ray just in case. Why? Well, the disc officially not in this set contains multiple versions of this film; one drastically different and a few similar. "It's complicated." It's worth it -- even if it may not live up to they hype. After all, what does? Hype is like tears in the rain.
As to the 4k? Glorious. The neon glows. The audio? The rain, the ambience, the (dated, in my opinion) score are immersive well beyond what I'd expect from a 1982 "flop."

Setting aside this movie's legendary status as a high point for Scorsese, DeNiro and all involved, this is the best home video release of it yet. Warning, though: If you don't like film grain you'll have to get used to it here. This movie has a look consistent with its vintage and its director's intent. For some modern viewers that may be a problem and it's understandable. Me, I think it looks right. Quibbles, yeah, always. But nothing more. If you're on the fence, get off it before someone whacks you.
Reprising her InchBatman vs. Superman Dawn of JusticeInch role, Gal Gadot stars as DC Comics' superheroine in this exciting solo adventure. During World War I, American pilot and spy Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes on the isolated island of Themyscira, home to Amazon warrior princess-and child of Zeus-Diana (Gadot). Accompanying Trevor back to the world of humans, Diana uses her wondrous powers to help end the conflict, which she believes to be fostered by renegade god Ares. David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright also star. 141 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

Much as I like Zach Snyder's Watchmen adaptation, his other DC entries have been overwrought and inconsistent. Thankfully, he's not involved in this film. This is a period piece (not unlike the first Captain America) and has more layers and levity. The third act is a bit video-gamey, but such are our times. Glad to say I finally had fun watching one of these.
The audio and video presentations are great. The HDR "pops" for those looking for it and the sound is immersive.

I love satire, dislike horror and enjoy this movie

I avoided this in theaters because horror movies don't scare me and horror-comedies annoy me. That was a mistake on my part. This movie is sly, witty, tense, dark and has quite a lot on its mind. Sure, it can be enjoyed on its entertaining surface -- but you can dig deeper.
The presentation is solid. Good picture, good audio -- especially for such a low budget feature. The director's commentary has some great tidbits. The disc also includes many deleted scenes and a darker alternate ending, all of which also feature commentary discussing why the director chose to leave them out.
During a post-Civil War Wyoming winter, a stagecoach bearing a bounty hunter (Kurt Russell), his foul-mouthed prize (Jennifer Jason Leigh), an ex-Union officer (Samuel L. Jackson) and a lawman (Walton Goggins) makes it's way towards Red Rock. The worsening snows force them to shelter at a general store occupied by a caretaker (Demian Bichir), a cowboy (Michael Madsen), Red Rock's hangman (Tim Roth), and an aged Confederate general (Bruce Dern). As the blizzard traps them within-possibly with no escape-resentments, greed, and hidden agendas emerge that might destroy them before the elements do, in Quentin Tarantino's moody and stylish sagebrusher.

At it's best, this is excellent. Of course, i'm a fan of plays and stories in confined spaces. There's enough tension and wit memorably delivered by the fine performers. The mystery may not sustain the interest in many viewers who prefer a brisker pace. I like the slow pace quite a bit; on the other hand, it makes it easier for the mind to assemble the clues and get ahead of where the movie wants you to be and for some that can lead to some boredom. Is it worth it? To me yes. Still, the pace -- not to mention the epithets -- is arguably over-indulgent and I couldn't begrudge anyone put off by it. Certainly not recommended for those with no patience for vulgarity or violence.
The third chapter in the rebooted sci-fi film franchise finds ape leader Caesar's (Andy Serkis in a voice and motion-capture performance) forces locked in a desperate conflict with the Colonel (Woody Harrelson), a ruthless human whose army also includes a group of traitorous primates. As the war reaches it's apex, the virus that decimated much of humanity begins to cause some of the remaining survivors to slowly devolve into more primitive creatures. With Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Amiah Miller. 140 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks English Dolby Atmos, DVS Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles English (SDH), Spanish, French; audio commentary; deleted scenes; featurettes; art gallery; theatrical trailers. Two-disc set.

The first film, Rise, was better than I'd expected. It's follow-up, Dawn, was incredible, in my opinion. This film isn't quite to that level but close. Confusingly, those expecting a "war" movie may enjoy "Dawn" the most. This is a bit of a war movie but owes a debt to "The Great Escape" and the like. By all rights this reboot series is far better than I'd ever expected.
As to the disc's presentation, it's a solid 4k release. Well above average, though it's more muted palette doesn't make the HDR "pop"

The sound is decent out-of-the-box but it's best to experiment with the ear appliances. Once I found the best fit it improved the audio. The app also helps equalize for those who prefer more bass or treble. I prefer a "flat" sound that avoids artifacts from manipulation but I was pretty impressed with the flexibility.
I wish the battery were more than four hours but the additional battery pack, while a little clunky, allows to listen while charging. Turns out it's overall more convenient even though it *feels* like a compromise.
