For those too young to remember "Good Morning Vietnam," "Good Will Hunting" is what introduced us to Robin Williams: Serious Actor. The man had chops beyond what anyone ever expected, and this will forever be remembered as one of the greatest's most iconic roles. The screenplay, which won Matt Damon and Ben Affleck an Academy Award, was rightfully loved by critics and fans alike. They don't make enough like this one.

Duncan Jones provides a blockbuster with brains

It might not be as brilliant as Duncan "Son of Bowie" Jones' first film, the Sam Rockwell-starring sci-fi classic "Moon," but "Source Code" is the type of blockbuster we don't see often: one with brains. The plot is relatively straightforward... or so you think, until Jones starts adding in layer after layer of further intrigue. You'll have figured out the ending before the movie gets there, but you'll be having enough fun by that point that you won't care, and you likely won't see exactly how all the pieces fit into place until the final moments, anyway. It lacks the class and layers of "Moon," perhaps, but it'll put just as big of a smile on your face.

I had temporarily lost my go to pair of headphones during a move and needed something cheap until I could find them. For $6, this pair of Skull Candy earbuds fit the bill perfectly. The sound isn't going to blow your mind and they aren't going to last very long, but, compared to the kind of garbage you'd pay $5 for in a Walmart value bin, this is a fantastic deal.

The Affleck Brothers at Their Finest

Ben Affleck proved his worth to a lot of people with "Gone Baby Gone," his first great success as a director. Many had forgotten Ben's early Academy Award-worthy work as a writer, and his work bringing Dennis Lehane's novel to the screen here (with Aaron Stockard) is nothing short of breathtaking. The story is deep, dark, and full of unexpected turns, and Ben's younger brother Casey makes for the perfect choice of lead to lend the story a heavy feeling of reality and despair.

Another excellent thriller from Nolan

Christopher Nolan's "Following" and "Memento" were both excellent thrillers in their own right, but he'd begin to find a bigger audience with "Insomnia," partly due to its brilliant cast, which includes Al Pacino, Hilary Swank, and a phenomenal and terrifying Robin Williams.

One of the funniest, best adaptations of the Peter Parker character yet (Andrew Garfield continues to impress) with an emotionally-satisfying story to boot. It gets a bit bogged down setting up future stories, but not nearly as much so as you've probably heard some complain. The score is excellent, as well.

He is Legend returns after a five year absence with possibly their best album yet, with huge sound, a phenomenal new drummer, and more of Schuylar Croom and Co.'s signature dark, catchy lyrics. A great album.

Mastodon continue to evolve and improve with each successive album, and "Once More 'Round the Sun" is their best yet. Progressive but catchy, heavy but melodic, off-the-wall creative but not to the degree that it will exclude too many people. A fantastic record.
