Its the real deal...

I won't bother writing a review based on all the specs that are listed on the website, if you are reading this, you probably have all of the specs memorized by now.
This camera is the real deal, I purchased this the day it came out. I have owned 3 other EOS bodies, and this one tops them all.
What I find especially great about this camera is something you wont find listed in the specs, and that is the way if feels in your hand. It feels almost connected to your hand when you grab the camera. The grip was designed perfect for the average sized hand. The camera itself feels solid, like the entire camera was forged from one piece of material.
I have mastered each of the EOS bodies I have owned, and after having this camera for the first few days, I realized that knowing the other cameras so well does absolutely nothing for this camera. It is a beast of its own, and requires much studying to start to understand the power this camera has to offer.
After my first week with the camera, I started to understand the metering and new focusing system, and I will tell you this, once you understand these two components of this camera, you will find yourself taking pictures you never thought possible.
All in all, pound for pound, penny for pixel... This camera is the best in its price range, and is the third best camera Canon makes, outside of the 1D & 5D.
Go for it...
What's great about it: Just about everything...
What's not so great: Pretty much nothing...
I would recommend this to a friend!

What is a good camera for...

I'm looking for a decent camera that is compact and reasonably priced (around $150 or under) for a college student. Ideally a camera that can fit in a pocket and can be taken out on a moments notice.
I would choose the Canon Power Shot A1000 IS. This camera has a fairly fast startup time, and with the Image Stabilization feature, you are better assured to get the capture you are looking for, especially with young college students who we all know are never standing still!

It also will track faces which is good for lots of their friends in the photos as well.

This camera also falls right into your price range.

Which camera Canon EOS Rebel XSi or EOS Rebel XS for beginner

which Canon SLR camera is better for a beginner to use? Using it for moving shots and close up.
The XSi offers slightly faster fps (frames per second) at 3.5, compared to the XS @ 3. This is useful for moving subjects if you want to be able to take a burst of shots to ensure that you will get the capture you are looking for.

Both cameras will have equal close up capabilities, as this will matter more with what lens you are using.

On the XSi, you do have the larger 3.0" lcd, which during the live view, may provide a better view/angle for closeups.

In all, go with the XSi, you will enjoy the extra mega pixels, faster fps, and larger screen.
