As a kid, I always hated the Sentinels, they were a joke. Wolverine would cut them to scrap metal, Magneto would just wave his hand. But these Sentinels are frightening, adaptive machines that mimic whatever gets thrown at them.
The cast, the story, and the direction are excellent... and despite my annoyance with time-travel storylines, the method they opt for is better than usual. Merging the two casts was a very good idea.

Intense, Cyncial and Fun Blockbuster

The only thing that most people know about Pompeii is that it was an Italian city destroyed by a volcano and buried in ash a long time ago. So this movie makes up the rest of the story. The main story is about a Gladiator, the love story that ensues and with a half-baked crazy, dirty politicians complicated subplot. Reminded me of "Gladiator" & "Titanic," mash these two movies together and you'd get Pompeii.

Finally a good begining

The fight between Ryu (Jon Foo) and Ken (Christian Howard) displayed their passion for the material. That same passion is evident in this expansion of their initial idea. Here Ryu (now played by Mike Moh) and Ken (Howard reprising the role) have been studying under their master Gouken (Akira Koieyama) for years and are starting to yearn for more advanced skills. After proving they have felt their ki (inner energy) they move their training to Gouken’s ancestral dojo.
What unfolds is the tragic tale of the practitioners of the Ansatsuken (Assassin’s Fist) martial arts style. A cycle that spans not only Ryu and Ken, but their Master Gouken and his brother and rival Gouki (Gaku Space). Gouki’s use of the forbidden arts caused him to become the dreaded Akuma (Joey Ansah), the ultimate fighter. The story is actually very well-written. It flows effortlessly and explains without boring exposition and the many flashbacks aren’t jarring but feel like a natural progression of the story.

Edge of Tomorrow uses the same storytelling method as "Groundhog's Day", "Looper" or "Source Code" and surprisingly brought some of that "Groundhog's Day" humor along for the ride. Major Cage is a fish out of water as he is suited up in the high-tech exo-skeleton battle armor and the creators use the time looping moments to successfully hilarious moments.
Bottom line, Tom Cruise makes great movies and "Edge of Tomorrow" is no exception. It is everything that is great about summer blockbusters and it is everything that has been forgotten about cinema in general. There once was a time when you weren't so certain about the fate of the characters in your movie, full-well knowing that they are either invincible or planned for the sequel. There once was a time when action movies made you actually feel something other than, "Eww, that was cool." And it does that as well.

I couldn't help thinking that I was watching an update of Mel Brooks "Blazing Saddles" as much of this Western parody feels so much like that now classic film, from the cliché style of font used in the graphics, to the rehashed Copeland-esque Western score.
