Can't say I'm a huge fan of Will Ferrell movies -- they generally come across as extremely silly and immature. However, there are some redeeming qualities in this movie to keep you somewhat interested and entertained.

Visually, the film is a masterpiece, offering some of the best cinematography, art direction and costume design of any film released in 2002. With the help of some master-craftsmen, Scorcese has created a complete world unto itself, one that doesn't look quite like anything we have ever seen on film before. The setting provides a stunning mixture of the real - and the surreal, with everything from the clapboard buildings to the foot-tall hats deriving their style from extrapolated exaggeration. It is truly an astonishing, eye-popping achievement.
The verdict: A fabulous film, which is going to be recognized for such in some years

The original vampire antagonist, in the 1985 film, (played by Chris Sarandon) was also named Jerry Dandridge but the main villain in it's 1988 sequel was his vampire sister Regine (played by Julie Carmen). I know I saw both films but I don't remember much about the second movie. So I can't say if this new sequel is better than it, or not, but I do know that this 2013 film much closer resembles the 1985 original (than it's 1988 follow-up). All of the characters names are the same, including 'Evil' Ed (who was originally played by Stephen Geoffreys), except for the slight spelling change of Gerri. The film was directed by Eduardo Rodriguez, and written by Matt Venne. I have no big problems with the film, it has some decent gore and frights, but it's just not very involving and is a little dull. For me the best thing about it is it's villain. It's not a bad sequel but it's also not nearly as good a film as it's predecessors.

This tale of an aging-exiled American outlaw and his attempts to return home may seem a bit straightforward and tame, but in the end it's not and you'll be glad to have spend the hour and forty-five minutes partaking in this latest great example of the genre.
