I have both alexa and the google home and if you are interested in automation, alexa is the way to go. if you want a way to google search with your voice, google home is better. both are good with streaming music.
For automation, almost nothing is native to google home and must go through IFTTT, which is a pain in the butt to set up. Have to set 2 applets per device - one for on and one for off. Alexa is just connect device via the skill (hue, lutron, wemo, etc) and all devices are discovered and can be controlled with voice without any extra effort.
Google home is still a fun device to have - recommend the mad libs skill!

What exactly is IFTTT, how to you integrate and use it with Google Home, and how much does it cost?
IFTTT is a bit of a hassle. It is an "if this then that" engine. You create an account using the email your Google Home is associated with, then search for Google Assistant. This should connect them.
From there, you need to connect your devices - such as lutron caseta. Best advice is to search the web for how to do this as there are tons of tutorials out there to help walk you through. Once you get the hang of it, it's not too hard, but can be time consuming if you have many devices to set up.
