Remastered fun

I played the ps3 version free due to ps+ and wanted to grab this during sales to add it mo my collection. It's not as great of a port as GTAV, but that's asking a lot admittedly. Neon signs are still gorgeous to look at and the story campaign is much more involving than one may suspect.

Well this was unexpected

I saw that my Netflix recommendations gave this a perfect 5 star rating so I watched it. 95 minutes later I sat on my couch like I just had a religious experience. Bought it the next day. One of the best action films in years hands down. Karl Urban's Eastwood impression (not BatBale!) is spot on and gives the tone a darkly comic edge. Better than the Stallone abomination in every way. After watching this I actually wanted to know more about Dredd's history. Isn't that proof enough the movie is a success?
Sound quality is insane. The 7.1 mix is without a doubt one of the most active, aggressive mixes I've ever heard. I honestly can't wait to show this to friends.

A solid deconstruction of action films.

I always saw Life Aquatic as a relatable film about depression and feeling lost at sea (no pun intended). Zissou finds himself after experiencing multiple cliche encounters that are straight out of 80's action 101. He doesn't have complete peace with himself, but there are always more adventures. Anderson keeps the pace brisk and the humor dry and deadpan. Murray gives a career best performance, personally.
Criterion knocks it out of the park in terms of A/V and supplements, as they always do for director Wes.

Desolation of Smaug's new and extended scenes add extra character and small touches of humor, improving on the theatrical's almost too brisk runtime. Beorn alone goes from a strange mountain man with a plot-related grudge to an intelligent (though gruff) man with a full range of emotions.Picture and sound are reference quality as one would expect from these releases.
The appendices are probably the best to date. From the honest "Oh, darn!" moments of making three films up to going overtime on the film's soundmix the extras shine a light on every part of the filmmaking experience.
Definitely getting my dad this for Christmas.

Must have for audio alone

There are many complaints online about how little the titular monster is in the movie, but each moment he shows up is jaw dropping in its own way. If you don't get goosebumps from the airport scene I don't know what to say. The dts audio helps sell each scene with enough low end rumble to make it sound/feel like monsters are fighting in your living room.
Overall the film is great summer fun. What few weak links exist couldn't stop me from grinning like an idiot throughout the run time.
