This extender is doing its job of extending the wireless internet signal. It was pretty easy to get up and runnning. My only gripe would be that these things are still pricy. I think this one was $80-$90.

do still have to have a router
if the first unit is connected to a router do u need a router at the other unit
the first unit is the modem and router combination from the cable company. The second unit is this extender and it does NOT require an additional router.

My building has free wi-fi but weak signal - will this help?
My building offers free wi-fi through a non password protected connection but the signal is weak in my part of the building. Can this device help me if I do not have the router (ie I do not have router codes etc.)? If not this device is there another?
If it's free wi-fi and you don't need a password to use it, then you won't need a password to setup the extender either. However, the first steps in setting up the extender require you to be near the router with a good signal. Even if you can do that, the final destination of the extendder should be some distance away from the router but still with a good signal. If thats not somewhere in your apartment (?), then I don't think this is a solution for you. sidenote - Do you want to be on an unprotected network with any number of people regardless of whether the signal is good or not?

How can I make it work on my Mac
How to make it work on my new Mac.......When it's put into the USB slot on the back all it shows on the screen is the symbol like I want to import it and the eject arrow but nothing else happens.
I had no problems using this on an old macbook air.
