I saw this in the theater with my French wife. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much after the recent attempts at starting space SciFi franchises--I'm calling you out, Jupiter Ascending and Ender's Game--and especially not from a predominantly French production crew.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a convincingly constructed universe, sympathetic character development, and a plot that was interesting and original--ok, at least as much as A New Hope--so while it didn't blow my hair back, I enjoyed it enough that I'm hoping for a second movie. In the meantime, I'm watching this at home on the couch.
The third chapter in the rebooted sci-fi film franchise finds ape leader Caesar's (Andy Serkis in a voice and motion-capture performance) forces locked in a desperate conflict with the Colonel (Woody Harrelson), a ruthless human whose army also includes a group of traitorous primates. As the war reaches it's apex, the virus that decimated much of humanity begins to cause some of the remaining survivors to slowly devolve into more primitive creatures. Not as good as the previous two movies in the franchise reboot, but still good. The CG apes continue to surprise with realism and human expression. Woody Harrelson gives a performance above par for his career. The gap between how humanity is nearly wiped out (started in the earlier of the new movies) and how humanity becomes little more than cattle (from the Charleton Heston originals) is filled in nicely with drama and action to spare.

Obviously, if you've got at least 2 of the movies in your collection already, this may or may NOT be the best way for you to go from a cost standpoint. However, the packaging is convenient. I already had two of the Ice Age movies on DVD, but decided that I couldn't pass up the deal for all 5 on BluRay.
The Ice Age movies are clearly children's movies made with an eye toward entertaining more mature audiences as well. There is a fair amount of body function and gender humor in these movies that may be offensive to more conservative households or families with children not yet ready for such topics.

I saw Ghost In The Shell at a film festival when it debuted in the United States, and it was awesome. I also liked the addition of digital animation graphics with 2.0. This live-action adaptation recreates all of the classic, iconic scenes while dropping the philosophical monologues. The existential exploration is lost in this adaptation, but corporate themes are retained. Some of the technical aspects are updated to reflect changes in technology that have happened since the original was released. Overall, I think the casting and production/direction choices were excellent, and I hope that a sequel is forthcoming. I highly recommend this movie for fans of the original who also liked 2.0.
For those with teens or other sensitive audiences, there are no nipples or nipple silhouettes in this adaptation, accommodating Western cultural norms.

This was one of my favorite theatrical releases in the last couple months of 2016. It doesn't come loaded with the baggage of a beloved character of storyline, so JK Rowling was free to write a story that was intended originally and primarily for the big screen--that helped a lot--and a cast of stellar actors brought it to life. I went expecting a good movie, and ended up seeing a favorite, so the decision to buy was easy.

Saw this in the theater and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Second time around was just as good on BluRay. Initially, I wasn't sure whether Benedict Cumberbatch would be a good fit for Dr. Strange, but the casting gurus at Disney/Marvel scored another home run. Of course, Mads Mikkelsen is the favored psychopath of the day and plays the part as well as you would expect. Without giving away too much, there's still the obligatory story arch where bad is good, and good turns out to be touched by bad; the protagonist suffers through personal adversity (brought on by hubris, or this wouldn't be the kind of modern heroic epic that has made the Marvel Cinematic Universe so vibrant); and the ending opens your eyes to a broader universe of possibilities...and sequels. A little Westernized mysticism, combat action, and humor make this a classic Disney/Marvel movie, so, if you've enjoyed the rest, this won't disappoint. If you've been looking for wider door into the realm of comic book movie fantasy--one that's a little less sci-fi and a little more fantasy--this may be it.

I consider this movie to be one of the great tales of how America was made, and a phenomenal movie in its own right. It was Costner's first and best attempt at directing. With 12 Oscar nominations, only 7 movies have ever been nominated for more Oscars. With 7 wins, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography, only 15 movies have ever won more Oscars. The cinematography is grand and the scenes sweeping in a way that is reminiscent of Lawrence of Arabia (1962), which also won 7 Oscars, six of them in the same categories. I highly recommend this movie.

In the franchise, this movie is definitely below average. HOWEVER, I'm a big fan of the X-Men and the X-Men movies--this movie included. The Last Stand got about 60% on Rottentomatoes--not nearly as good as The Wolverine, a little better than X-Men: Apocalypse, and a LOT better than X-Men Origins--so if you liked Apocalypse and haven't seen this one, you'll probably enjoy The Last Stand.
JOY is the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy's inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces. Jennifer Lawrence stars, with Robert de Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen. Like David O. Russell's previous films, Joy defies genre to tell a story of family, loyalty, and love.
