This is by far and without question the best router I have owned of all of the Netgear products. It handles 20 plus devices without a hickup including gaming, video streaming, cell devices, tablets and laptops. It runs the 250 Mbs internet speed at sometimes over 300 on WIFI! This router is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone that requires many devices. It also handles the ethernet connected devices thru my netgear network switch. PERFECT.

adding Wireless Router to Cable Modem??
I currently have Cable internet and my Cable company will not let me use my own modem...have to use theirs. My modem doesn't give me Wi-Fi. I want to add a wireless router to my modem so I can use my laptops in other rooms in my house.... here's the problem. We use our laptops for gaming. So which wireless router would work best for our situation. Have never used routers or anything like this until now. And also would any wireless router work? Thanks for the help.

Who is your cable provider/ISP? They are required by law to allow you to use your own modem!!! I would check in with your State regulatory agency that deals with internet service is you receive "push-back" from your cable company. Then it is as simple as connecting your wireless router and creating your own personal network.

I have a old netgear router/modem. Can I use it as a modem with my new nighthawk?
When you upgrade, you need to upgrade both your modem AND your router. Most ISP's have a link to assist in helping you determine what modem and router you need for the speed of internet you desire. Then its just a matter of choosing a brand. Netgear is without question the best.

Will this unit work with fiber optic DSL I have CenturyLink and service is the fastest but there router goes down on a monthly basis and can't reach the other rooms in my house.
This will not work if you cheapout and use DSL. You will be stuck with a DSL compatible device which is much, much slower!!. Get rid of DSL and go cable. Then you will experience true blazing fast internet.
