Not to be jerk, but I think your problem is DirectTV and the type of single they transmit. Have you tried hooking it up through another devices? I once had a similar issues with a G E TV and found that running the signal through a Blu-Ray player solved the issue. That seemed to modify the signal somehow and the picture improved for us. Give it a try and use HDMI connections between the Blu-Ray and the TV. It may not work for everyone, but it did for us. Once I switched to cable(Xfinity) I did not have issues with that TV and I am not having any issues now with the Samsung. Hope this work for you.
