I bought this adapter in conjunction with the new Asus RT-AC68R dual band router. My laptop doesn't have a 5GHz adapter, so I bought this external unit. File transfer speeds increased about 3 fold with the new adapter.
As expected, the 5 GHz has a shorter range, as compared to the 2.4GHz, but I knew this before purchasing the unit. I would have preferred an adapter from Asus, to match the manufacturer of the router, but I couldn't get one locally at the time.

I purchased this dongle to add DB9 Serial functionality to my Asus netbook. I installed the driver (included on a cd) and then plugged in the dongle. It installed with no problems. The unit functions just as expected, with no problems. I use the unit with "Putty" and Hyperterm and haven't found any problems.
