Works Great, Troubleshooting Tips
on February 24, 2008

I received this as a Christmas gift, couldn't get it to work, took it back, exchanged it, couldn't get the 2nd one to work, started researching... the fix was simple. I'm a guy and didn't evidently *need* the directions (hint, yeah, I did). I would have THOUGHT as many complaints as there are online that the tech people in Canada would have asked before I went to all the trouble, but they probably assume we would RTFD. ;)
The two boxes aren't labeled "sender" or "receiver" and there is only one page in the manual (package contents) that tells you which one is which. So, of course, I put the bigger unit with my receiver since the signal processor and sending unit SHOULD be bigger, right?
WRONG! The larger unit is the RECEIVER, and is BIGGER because it's amplifying the signal up to 25 watts for your surround speakers. The smaller unit is the sender and hooks into your AV rack.
2nd problem: buzzing sound when you turn your AV unit off. The electrical plugs in your room are on the same breaker and it's feeding back on itself. 2 solutions: pick a different outlet or go online and Google "rocketfish humming fix resistors". 2 Radio Shack resistors are hooked in series to the wires coming out of your A/V rack, takes about 30 minutes and costs about $5 bucks.
Rocketfish will also, on request, send you two such wires FREE if you ask them nicely. (note, they may stop doing this for cost reasons if demand gets too high).
25 watts is PLENTY of power unless you have a basement surround sound need with speakers more than 5 feet or so from the sitting area. Turn the silver dial on the receiver unit ALL THE WAY UP first, BEFORE adjusting your A/V rack surround output level.
Clear and loud sound from my JVC receiver and JBL surround speakers. Was considering running these through my powered subwoofer that has a built-in amplifier and left/right output but since the input signal would be amplified to 25 watts, will probably hold off.
Good luck, and enjoy!
What's great about it: Small, quick install, 24/7 LIVE support (in Canada)
What's not so great: Some reports of humming, confusing directions, poor tech support
I would recommend this to a friend!
