Would we be able to add monitors ?
We want add monitors, one up stairs and one down stairs , is it possible ?
These cameras, although they do have the cheap yellow cable outs, aren't made for viewing from monitors, but from computer screens via internet. There is a software that you can download from d-link that allows you to view multiple cameras simultaneously, but no support documentation is provided, so it is use at your own discretion.

if there is no motion but sound only will it record the sound..
If there is no movement but sound is detected will it record picture and sound.
Yes, it can trigger record on sound. There are a few trigger events you can set up via it's onboard software accessed via webpage.

what method does the camera use for recording?
how long does it store it, and will it drop off old and rewrite with new recordings?
Recording size depends on where you decide to store video, remotely onto a network share or onto a microSD card. You can set it to overwrite old recordings or stop and email you that card is full.

Yes there is a setting to turn off the camera. You can have scheduled or event trigger recording. You can store to a network location or onto a microSD card.

How does the recording feature work?
Is the camera always in record mode? How large of an SD card does it accept and how much recording time can one card handle? Once the SD card if full, does the system start to record over the previous recordings?, Lastly, can I watch previous recorded video from my phone or remote devise.
No. You can have it on a schedule to record or to record only during trigger events. I currently have a 32GB card in there. I would think at least 64GB should work but there is no info about capacity limits in the manual. Yes, you can view the videos from your phone with the smartphone app, but it is incredibly slow to actually download it from the camera.
