what is the actual read write speed of this drive?
USB 2.0 transfers at 60Mbps while USB 3.0 transfers at 640Mbps. USB 3.0 speeds are only accomplished if both the drive and USB port are USB 3.0. Hope that answers your question.

How many movies could be stored on this device?
It depends on the movie. Most of the movies that I've downloaded to a device were usually around 3Gb to 6Gb in size. So taking the higher average of the two, say 5Gb\250Gb would be around 50 movies.
