Package says case fan. Can it also be used for CPU cooling purposes?
No, CPU fans are much smaller so that they can be mounted directly on the CPU. This fan is a computer case cooling fan, made to be mounted in the rear of the computer case, below the power supply and its fan, to help further cool the inside of the case.

how can i measure cooling fan langth
Good question ! I can only measure the distance between the four mounting screws to see if it will fit. But this measurement does not correspond to the 80mm listed on the package. I think 80mm refers to the actual square frame size on each side, and not the spacing of the mounting holes, which is slightly less. My HP brand desktop computer had a larger mounting hole spacing, so I had to drill four new holes for this fan to fit, rather than buy a higher priced fan from HP..
