Purchased to have Geek Squad offload contents of dead laptop computer hard drive. Needed flexibility of AC power instead of just USB powered external hard drive for potential use on Dish Network system and to further avoid multiple smaller external drives for backup of computers. Larger size for tabletop use was not an issue but would be a consideration if space is an issue.

Can it be used Dish backup??
Can I used this as a backup for recording from dish.
It has AC power corde power Not just USB. That's what Dish requires (I hsve a smaller AC corded expansion hard drive for movie storage.
