A delightful brawler

Have heard much about the series since its debut back on the PlayStation 2, but never had a real chance to play until now. I can see the tremendous appeal in this series. You're dumped into a digital slice of a fictional Japanese city and given a wide-arrangement of activities to occupy your time with. From gambling, running errands, and of course trading blows with thugs using just about everything that isn't nailed down. The way players can bash their way through goons using items that range from practical like baseball bats to cartoonish weapons like an entire motorcycle makes the action as satisfying as it is hilariously over the top.
While some may be put off by the Japanese-only audio, it really makes the most sense with the game's setting and semi-realistic setting compared to the likes of a more anime-styled game like Persona or any JRPG where the choice between original Japanese and English dubs allow for a choice of colorful dialogue.

At a glance, the Switch may sound like a revised take on the Wii U's gamepad, wherein users could take their game away from the TV. However, the Switch takes things a step above and beyond by allowing you to go anywhere, even outside the house to keep playing. While the size and shape may be tricky for those with larger hands (myself included), the weight is scarcely an issue and the Joy-cons remain firmly locked into the console to ensure no unwanted drops occur. For both Mario and Zelda fans, this is a great system to enjoy the newest entries for both series.

Following in the footsteps of games like Ico and Journey, RiME spins a tale of a boy lost on a mysterious island with an even more mysterious tower looming above it. The puzzles are pretty straightforward, but creative enough to feel rewarding once you've solved them. Along with keyholes hiding nuggets of the story, and other collectibles, there's a fair bit of replay value to this gem. The graphics are a little rough in some areas, but the art direction makes up for it with the colorful and strange world, as well as a striking musical score that captures every moment perfectly. The game is short, but worth a sitting if you have enjoyed similar titles like the previously mentioned Ico (or its followups, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian).
