Relatively easy to set up just be sure that all units are initially switched off as recommended in instructions. The controls and features port very well when programmed and I have only experienced problems with one legacy device from Philips where a self learning IR mode would have been useful if the Philips device was not in database. (as per some earlier Logitech smart remotes)
I also like the simple GUI and keypad which avoids paging through numerous smart screens.

Great little machine for browsing internet , CHROME casting audio and performing basic functions such as email , letters ,SKYPE AV ect (online) Battery life is very good though does take time to recharge as others have suggested. Does seem to run most of the andriod apps I have downloaded todate. The current processor is quite fast and does not lag (earlier models may have had problem)
Highly portable but note to use of line you will need large USB memory (not expensive) and know how to find memory and downloads (not obvious but read up on line and then navigate easily) Also note applications are not easy to use if OFFLINE (but can find apps programs to use in this mode) Wireless LAN is quite fast, finds networks easily and Bluetooth also worked straight away with legacy older BT peripherals I have. This device is not intended to replace a power laptop nor does have the graphics screen of an apple device BUT comes with integrated keyboard and costs significantly less. So far very pleased .Hope Acer continue range and same price pointwith more performanc and screen res going forward; offline android apps compataibilty maybe very useful.

High useful multi PC mouse

The Logitech mouse worked with multiple PCs (3) straight away under the Logitech unifying software mode installation. Although not recommended by Logitech (or guaranteed probably a better term) I use the unifying receiver USB in a dock hub station. rather than move the dongle around. The blue tooth BT mode also worked well with win 7 & 10 PCs but does not work with WINDOWS VISTA if you have legacy platforms which was a surprise so you have to use the unifying receiver for those PC platforms (which do work with VISTA)

Can I download the VLC player to play movies off of a portable hard drive? I will be utilizing this mostly away from a internet connection while away on a ship.
Have not tried VLC player but is available ; one problem you may run into is the device io interfaces are limited and definitely not designed to source power and device (drivers) may not recognize portable hard drive. However my sold state usb flash was recognized so downloading there too a large memory maybe useful assuming you have digital rights. As you suspect the onboard device memory is very limited. I have used a 128GB USB memory with success. Screen is relatively small and medium resolution for AV.
BTW thought most ships would have internet ? You may also want to consider power since there are no detachable batteries (built in) with external power recharge unit.
