As a comic fan, I always favored DC over Marvel, but in their respective cinematic outings, Marvel seems to have captured a winning formula that gives them an edge. For that reason, I think DC (Warner Bros) has opted to pursue a distinctly different tone, and I can't help but feel it is the wrong tone for their characters. In Superman Man Of Steel, they drove home the point that the S on his chest meant 'hope', then proceeded to make the character too grim to be truly inspirational. I had hoped this film would give him the chance to inhabit the boy scout aspect that Christopher Reeve nailed so well back in the day, and for Batman to be the grim counterpart to him. Affleck was better than expected as Batman, Wonder Woman wasn't around long enough to make a big impression, and Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was as grating as I"d expected, but I was still able to view the film as a mere piece of a puzzle that needs to progress before you can truly appreciate the picture it is trying to show. Some of the re-added scenes on the blu-ray release did help to make this installment of the big picture more clear, and create some anticipation for the next chapter.

Though not as versatile as my previous flatbed scanner, this one was very easy to install and use in a time sensitive situation. And the reasonable price was also an important factor for something I needed to get on short notice.

Bought this HDMI cable to be able to move my high-def components (Blu-Ray player, 2 different gaming consoles) to different televisions withoug having to undo the hook-up each time. Cable seems to work fine, meets expectations in visual and audio capacity relative to the settings on the tv set being used at any given time.

The concluding run of episodes of one of the best television dramas ever made. Viewed overall, the story of the rise and fall of Walter White ranks as one of the most satisfying and complete narratives in a medium that is prone to dissappoint. The acting, the writing- nearly everything about this series contributed to making it one that I would want to rewatch again and again. This final season was a masterful culmination of a narrative journey that did not dissappoint.

The (mostly) beloved Batman story by Alan Moore seemed to lose some of it's luster in animated film form. The lure of seeing a classic tale from the Dark Knight's grim n' gritty era brought to 'life' with the definitive voice actors for the animated Batman (Kevin Conroy), and the Joker (Mark Hamil)- done with an 'R' rating no less- seemed irressistable. But the finished product somehow seemed unfinished, and in spite of some additional (and controversial) additional subplot/subtext, paled in comparison to the standalone graphic novel original. Good for Bat-fan completists, and maybe people who had never read the original.

Interesting to hear a voice that I usually associate with a specific guitar sound in a different context, but I found myself really enjoying J.Mascis' Tied To A Star CD as much as his work with Dinosaur Jr.. The songwriting is engaging enough to make me want to seek out his earlier solo effort, and I look forward to future Mascis releases- with or without the band.

As a fan of the original Thomas Harris books and (most) movies concerning Hannibal Lecter, I was originally skeptical of the idea of a television show built around the character. Hannibal has gleefully proven my worries unfounded as the series interprets the once familiar events and characters with a depth and resonance that respects the source material while expanding on it. Where season one was built around the meeting and early relationship between Lecter and FBI profiler Will Graham, they managed to introduce and maintain a level of tension built off of the audiences knowledge of Lecter's true nature, and Grahams evolving realization of it. Season two begins where season one left off- with Will behind bars after being artfully framed by the cannibal doctor. How will he get out? What is Hannibal up to while Graham is out of the picture? Where does the tense, symbiotic relationship between the two men go from here? Learning the answers is a suspenseful journey worth taking, presented with a visual panache that doesn't skimp on the gore, and set to a soundtrack of unique soundscapes and classical music selections. The outstanding cast make the previously inhabited roles their own, and are often matched by the performances of guest stars that include Eddie Izzard, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Plummer, and Michael Pitt. Highly recommended.
