It's dogs galore in the Cuba Gooding Jr. Disney vehicle Snow Dogs. Disney's work on this 1.33:1 full-frame version of Snow Dogs is less than stellar and disappointing at best. While the colors and black levels are all well-saturated and very even, the fact that the original widescreen version has been cropped should makes fans of the film mad as a pack of wild arctic wolves. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and French, as well as DTS 5.1 Surround in English. Featuring an aggressive array of sounds and effects, both the DTS and Dolby 5.1 soundtracks are bombastic and very full. Also included on this disc are subtitles in English. The special features on Snow Dogs should please those looking for a bit of insight into the making of the film. A commentary by director Brian Levant and producer Jordan Kerner is both entertaining and enlightening. Three featurettes ("Going to the Dogs," "Chillin' With the Actors," and "Tolketna on Ice") include a bevy of information on the film's production, plus interviews by some of the cast and crew, behind-the-scenes footage, and a look at how some of the effects in the film were achieved (animatronic dogs). Finally there are a few deleted/extended scenes that don't add up to very much, a mildly fun set-top game called "Ted's Arctic Challenge," and a plethora of trailers for other Disney movies.

A pair of hapless plumbers get sucked into a parallel dimension in this video game-to-feature adaptation from Disney/Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and offering audio rendered in closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Surround, this release is sure to entertain fans if the high-jumping, mustached Nintendo hero.

The only thing the movie really has in common with the video games is the name, has a decent story, the characters are not very memorable. Mario and Luigi at least look like themselves, but none of the other characters do. It's worth at least watching once.

Arrow is one of the best shows on tv right now, following Oliver Queen on his quest to protect his city. It has drama, action, and the occasional laugh thrown in. If you like comic books, I highly recommend it.

Fictional video game superstar Lara Croft comes to this big screen care of actress Angelina Jolie in the action-packed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Paramount has done a great job on this 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer. This is an excellent-looking picture that includes vivd colors, well-rendered detail, and little to no imperfections. Since this is a very new release, it's not surprising that this is a nearly flawless-looking image. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 as well as Dolby 2.0 in English and French. The 5.1 audio track utilizes both the front and rear speakers to maximum effect; this is, by all means, a wonderfully full and bombastic soundtrack. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are crisp and distortion free. Also included on this disc are English subtitles. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is presented in a nice edition that features a vast array of extra features. To start off the disc, there is a commentary track by director Simon West. The director has some strong feelings about the movie, recounts some production difficulties, and often dotes on lead actress Angelina Jolie. Five separate featurettes are included that touch on different aspects of the production, including the stunts, the video game, and the visual effects. Each of these featurettes range in length from about ten minutes to 25 minutes and offer some in-depth insight into the making of the movie. Four deleted scenes are presented in anamorphic widescreen which also include an alternate opening title sequence from the film. A music video for the song "Elevation" by the rock group U2 is included and it's a funny spoof of the movie starring the Edge. Finally there are some DVD-ROM features for viewers with computer access. For fans of rollicking adventure, this is a great DVD that should keep them plenty busy.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life comes to DVD in a packed release sure to please any fan of the large-bosomed feminist adventurer. This widescreen version comes with an anamorphic 1.85:1 picture (also available in pan-and-scan) and an English 5.1 Dolby Surround track, both of which give the film a full richness for those who weren't lucky enough to catch this gem in the theater. Extras begin with a director's commentary with famed hothead Jan De Bont, who, surprisingly, comes off quite timid and well natured as he discusses the challenges the production faced when trying to outdo the original's scope and video game-inspired action. The director is also on hand for a flurry of deleted and alternate scenes, most of which were extended sections with characters later deemed inessential in the final cut. A large section of featurettes also covers various topics, including training; vehicles and weapons; stunts; visual effects; and scoring. Ranging from five to ten minutes each, this collection of behind-the-scenes clips does a manageable job of covering the broad scope of the production without getting too in-depth. In addition, there's Gerard Butler's screen test and two music videos featuring the Davey Brothers and Korn, the latter of which stars Lara Croft herself. Finally, a previews section is supplied with trailers for John Woo's adaptation of Philip K. Dick's Paycheck, along with Paramount's long-awaited The Adventures of Indiana Jones Trilogy DVD box set. For those with DVD-ROM access, the original theatrical website can be viewed, where you can download various wallpapers, read about the cast and crew, and check out the original theatrical trailer for The Cradle of Life. All in all, those who enjoyed the film should be happy with the disc's fine presentation and fairly informative look inside this sequel's production.

Classic Disney animation meets contemporary urban chaos when a frightened princess is banished from her magical animated homeland to modern-day New York City in a romantic comedy penned by Bill Kelly (Blast from the Past), directed by Kevin Lima (Tarzan), and featuring music by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) lives in the blissful cartoon world of Andalasia, where magical beings frolic freely and musical interludes punctuate every interaction. Though Princess Giselle is currently engaged to be married to the handsome Prince Edward (James Marsden), her fate takes a turn for the worse when the villainous Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) banishes her to the unforgiving metropolis of New York City. As the cruelty of the big city soon begins to wear down the fairy-tale exterior of the once-carefree princess, the frightened Giselle soon finds herself falling for a friendly but flawed divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) whose kind compassion helps her to survive in this strange and dangerous new world.
