Is the 49" height the top height for the tv?
No. That is the height of the unit. The mount has several hooks on the back for hanging you TV. Depends on where the mounting bracket attaches to the TV that determines how high or low you can mount it.

It should work for any brand TV up to 60" diagonal.

Does it come in white
Just wondering if this unit comes in white and also if it needs to be flat against a wall, I was thinking of putting this unit in a corner. Would it work? Many thanks.
No it does not come in white. And yes, it does have to be flat against the wall. You have to mount it to a stud in the wall so it will be secure. Otherwise, it would topple over. The TV makes it very top heavy.
