Upgrade 12gb PS3 for gaming
My son bought a 12gb PS3 and some games wont load because of space on hard drive, will any external drive work?

Is this similar to the 1TB WD external hard drive?
Yes, the drive uses a 3.0 USB and works the same as the 1TB hard drive.
