Will my htc 1 smartphone be damaged by having it so close to the vents during high heat in winter or AC in summer?
No, unless your heater is hot enough to cook food. The backing on the mount is a thick plastic so that alone will block your phone from most of the vented air. And on the other end, your AC will never be strong enough to freeze an electronic device. If anything it'll just add on as a mild coolant to keep your phone from heating up do to use. [doubtful it could even contribute that much]

Will this fit my TomTom GO 60 S GPS?
if your GPS isn't much bigger than even the large phones they have out now, you should be fine. It's adjustability is a pretty good range.
