WOLOLO's Reviews

Pull a box of Captain Crunch from the cabinet, don some pajamas and pop these discs into the DVD player for a trip back in time to those lazy Saturday mornings of our youth. This huge, double-disc set is crammed with almost every three-minute animated episode of Schoolhouse Rock -- that's 52 toe-tapping, tune-jingling ditties teaching young minds the power of conjunctions, the principles of Congress and the beauty of adverbs. From the earliest cartoon short in 1973 through some newer renditions in the early 1990s, this DVD set contains them all in their full form, but with extraordinary sound and color. Delivered in Dolby 2.0 sound, the songs blast from the speakers with crisp tones never quite experienced on television nearly 30 years ago. One negative: Some of the digital transfers aren't top quality. Every episode is here, from the much-loved "Conjunction Junction" to "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" to "My Hero Zero" to "Good Eleven." One caution: the catchy jingles will play over and over again in your head. You might even find yourself in a crowded elevator, humming, "Interplanet Janet she's a galaxy girl, a solar system miss from a future world." Some of the edition's highlights include the all-new song "I'm Gonna Send Your Vote to College," the top 20 Countdown, a three-song set of "Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips" and the long-lost "Weather Show." The entire four-hour rockfest is nothing shy of brilliant based on the content and the completeness of the collection. This set is a must-own for anyone with children or anyone who was once a child. At the very least, the songs can trigger a relapse into good grammar, especially after watching "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly Get Your Adverbs Here."
