Wii Internet connection & Animal Crossing
If you don't have internet connection to a Wii or a friend who has a ds can you play the game Animal Crossing City Folk to the full protential? And if someone has a ds do they have to buy the game also?
Not anymore, Nintendo shut down the servers that would allow the games to talk. It would probably be easier to get an action replay or something.

This is probably not going to help you since it was asked so long ago but here is an answer: It depends on how you connect to the internet. If the wii does not detect your wifi (like an apple airport or a netgear), then you would need to buy the usb dongle to connect with a LAN cable.
HOWEVER, you may not want to do that because all of the multiplayer stuff has been shutdown (Nintendo turned off the wii servers after the launch of the Wii U). As a result, the only thing that still works would be the store if you wanted to buy a downloadable game.

The Wii has wifi. If you do not have wifi, you would need a USB ethernet adapter. One item to note though is that the original Wii servers were shut down so you cannot play internet enabled games anymore :(
