New washer hoses were mandatory purchase by Best Buy. I had just replaced hoses on old washer 3 months earlier. New hoses are better and fine, but were probably unnecessary.

Required and Inadequate

While there was nothing inherently wrong with the dryer vent kit which was a required purchase from Best Buy, the first installers (Geek Squad), who couldn't do install until ten (10) days after purchase, advised that we needed a new electric outlet AND that the vent kit (again required purchase) may not fit. After replacing the electric outlet and assuring the adequacy of the outside venting for hose attachment, the second installers (again 2 Geek Squad) came a week later and quickly said they couldn't hook up vent kit because it was too short and elbows wouldn't fit in tight space at outside outlet. They advised us to shop on line for longer hose vent kit in same brand as required Best Buy purchase, or another if necessary. Raised questions about honoring warranty with such changes, and also additional time and expense on my part. At this point I called the store appliance rep from whom we'd made the washer/dryer purchase. He responded quickly and efficiently by setting up an appointment late the same day with an independent appliance service contractor at Best Buy expense to do the installation. Interestingly he merely connected aluminum vent hose directly to the outside vent with ring clamp and aluminum heat tape, used the elbow connection for the dryer itself, and connected a new length of aluminum vent hose to the one provided with foil heat tape. The entire process took about 30 minutes. Best Buy needs to seriously evaluate their methodology for installations.

This dryer cord is required for successful hook-up of your new appliance. Our delivery personnel will determine whether a 3- or 4-prong cord is needed based on the outlet behind your existing dryer.

Had no choice with Best Buy. Forced to buy from them vs using old power cord, which wouldn't have worked anyway. Told by installers (Geek Squad) that had to change outlet (had old range plug) before could install dryer. Should have been told this as possibility by store appliance rep at time of purchase, which would have saved a second trip and lost time and additional expense (ordered new outlet on Amazon, received in 2 days and installed myself).

Old washer lost belt or had motor issues. Did lots of reading of specs, reviews, etc on line as well as talking with Maytag dealer and friends. Narrowed choices and then went to store to see and talk with appliance rep. Based on needs, warranties and price we chose this model.
