A Gaming and/or High GPU Demand Focused Computer

The average user will probably never be able to push the HP-OMEN-3L GT16-0074 hard enough to demonstrate the power it has available. However, if you are a serious gamer (Destiny 2 or Gears5, not Candy Crush), or someone who needs graphic power to run Engineering or Architectural Design Programs like SolidWorks or Revit, this computer will give you years of use. If the Feature details below are too technical, you can just be sure they are VERY impressive.

PROS:
- The NVMe hard drive gives boot-up and game transition speeds that are amazing. It is equally fast getting through the boring transition screens in games showing, for example a spaceship supposedly moving through hyperspace while the console or computer is processing the new scenery in the background for the next game level. This will save a lot of wasted time for serious gamers.
- High performance gaming laptops and desktops would HOWL when the fans cut-in during heavy use. This HP OMEN is Whisper quiet thanks to it’s liquid cooling.
- Attractive mid-sized housing with glass viewing panels and lots of colored LEDs.
- The NVIDIA Ge-force RTX5070 Series GPU with12GB GDDR7 Ram and the SSD described above combine to make this a very fast gaming machine. The 35L OMEN drives my LG 49” curved DQHD screen, full width at 240 Hz, 5120x1440 for a terrific 3D-like visual experience.
- As I’m sure you’ll see in other reviews, this laptop has all of the latest modern and even legacy external ports you’ll need and I’d expect that for the price and category of this machine. However, what really surprised and pleased me was that it has one port of such an old standard that most laptops have dropped it. That’s the RJ-45 E2600 Gigabit Ethernet NIC. Gaming is all about low-lag speed and as fast as modern Wi-Fi is, you still can’t beat a wired LAN connection into the internet. My two-year-old high-end laptop’s manufacturer had already dropped RJ-45 to chase the laptop thinness craze. I had to buy an expensive dongle adapter for that laptop to go from USB-C to RJ-45 and lost the use of the USB-C port to do it. GREAT!
CONS:
- My sound system with L/R speakers and a woofer uses a single 6mm jack like the one on a typical gaming headset. There is a female receptacle of this type on the top-front of the case, but on the back there are three separate female receptacles meant for three separate cables for the same purpose. This means I have to leave my speakers (not headphones) plugged conspicuously into the top of the case instead of hidden in the back as I would strongly prefer. This computer has a plethora of female receptacles on the back of many kinds from HDMI, to USB type c to type 2 to Display Port to RJ45 etc.
Conclusion:
This desktop is designed for gaming performance with little or no compromises for more common use. If you just type emails and cruise the internet, it is unnecessarily heavy and expensive. But, if you’re a serious gamer or graphics user, then this one deserves your serious consideration.

Breeze through everyday tasks on this 27-inch monitor with 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT), and T~V 3-star certification for eye comfort.

Summary:
This Dell 27-inch monitor seems designed and built with Home or Work Office use in mind. For example you’re not going to get any privacy in this screen. It has a specifically functioning wide field of view for collaboration with family members or staff to discuss what’s on the screen. Its rugged simple design is functional, and not something that’s going to turn heads. A definite utilitarian working device. It is the perfect size for a typical work-desk. It’s screen is clear and big enough to display multiple visual elements open on the screen. Meanwhile the external dimensions are not physically too obstructive for the typical workspace. I’m not sure I would want to go larger, unless it’s I needed an ultra-wide screen. This monitor hits the sweet spot for getting work done at home, school, or in the office.

A No-Compromise high-performance gaming controller

The Nacon Revolution X Unlimited Controller, has all the Bells and Whistles that a VERY competitive gamer would require. However, if like me you are not pushing your controller to that demanding a level, you may find that the very customization this controller offers, might not necessarily improve your gaming experience. Personally I found that when I pick this controller up off of the table or armchair, I can’t avoid accidentally activating one of the many buttons covering every surface of the controller. This is especially problematic when using my Xbox to watch YouTube videos. Unwanted button or stick pressing causes something I don’t want to happen, to happen. Check out all of the capabilities of this controller and consider whether your gaming/TV viewing style requires most of them.

- The controller’s response to the gamer’s manual input can be varied from extremely tight for a demanding shooter, to looser and more relaxed for simpler fantasy games.

The Nacon Revolution X controller is a very customizable product. If you are a very competitive player and every sliver of mechanical advantage you can get out of a controller will improve your winning streak, then this controller should be seriously considered. However, if you’re an average gamer and are just looking to replace the standard controller because it wore out, this is a bit of overkill. Look at the features, and see if they fit your requirements.

Not too long ago in the world of PC Gaming monitors, because of limitations in performance in this price range, there were 2 camps. On one side, resolution was king, on the other, refresh rate was king. Thanks to overall increases in computer and monitor performance, this gaming monitor from TCL goes the dual route of resolution with Full QHD resolution in an IPS panel with some basic HDR capabilities. It really is amazing how much comes packed into this monitor.

Mapping and Editing the Map needs improvement.

Robot vacuum cleaners have certainly come a long way since the first ones were introduced about 10 years ago. My earliest robo-vacs acted like cue balls on a pool table aimlessly ricocheting back and forth hitting each wall or corner and then simply going a different direction. They seem to go by the theory I’ll get that dirt "eventually”. Later, guided navigation was introduced as well as features like vacuuming and mopping and self-emptying. The Shark Stratos is mid-range in its capabilities. After using it for a couple of weeks, my overall opinion is it has great hardware, but it suffers in the app and algorithm department
FEATURES:
· Dual Functionality: Combines robot vacuuming and mopping into one device.
• “Smart Cleaning” identifies areas with more debris than normal and then boosts vacuuming performance. The robot targets areas with more stains and will boost mopping performance by taking multiple cleaning passes.
• When vacuuming, the robot blasts air to push debris from edges and corners into the robot’s cleaning path. While mopping, it extends the pad up to an inch towards the wall for edge-to-edge mop cleaning.
• The base captures and traps 99.97% of pet allergens* and dust. Odor Neutralizer Technology traps odors for a fresher smelling home. (*down to .3 microns)
• The robot automatically empties debris into the 60-day-capacity bin, automatically refills its own water tank for up to 30 days, and washes and dries the mopping pad after every clean.
• The first time the Shark Stratos maps your home’s rooms, you might become concerned that it is picking up and curling the edges and corners of your throw rugs. Actually ,once the mapping App learns where the problem throw rug edges are, it will begin lifting the rear end of the robo-vac off of the floor, so the rug is not caught and curled. It’s actually quite effective and fascinating to watch.
PROS:
· Once the base storage compartment is full, it’s very easy and cost efficient to empty, since it is a simple reusable plastic box box and not a costly uncleanable filter bag
· App Control: The Shark Stratos is compatible with home voice assistants (Siri and Google Home) for hands-free control, scheduling and monitoring of cleaning sessions.
· Connectivity: Easy guided Wi-Fi set-up
· Timesaving: Reduces manual cleaning efforts, saving time and effort for users.
· Customizable schedules for automated cleaning sessions add convenience.
· Effectiveness: The Shark Stratos has a very high suction and brush speed capability which will clean a lot of dirt out of carpets and floors
· Versatility: Suitable for various floor types, including hardwood, throw-rugs and carpets. It switches its height, speed, and suction power on the go automatically depending on conditions and your settings in the App.
· The Shark Stratos is relatively quiet compared to other robo-vacs.
CONS:
- I am disappointed in the navigation and particularly the Map making/editing ability of the Shark Stratos. Compared to many other robo-vacs I’ve owned, the Shark Stratos’ map display is missing important (to me) information like properly located free standing interior walls. For some reason, the map’s algorithm only recognizes and displays walls that are physically connected to the outside house wall. It seems to think freestanding separation walls are furniture.
- After the Shark has done its initial mapping, the result is full of errors. It tends to break up open rooms into sections for no logical reason. The editing of the map is difficult. Dividing the rooms is only allowed in vertical or horizontal lines The map editing software stubbornly resists dividing rooms unless they extend to the home exterior wall. The "Exclude Areas" allowed are huge. The smallest exclusion area I was to make was the size of a small bedroom. To cope with it I had to extend the exclusion area outside of the house to get them to exclude the smaller area I needed. The Shark Stratos had a great deal of difficulty with the thin cotton skirt around the bottom of our Christmas tree. Every time it tried to make a map, it would swallow the edge of that skirt and just kept going back and forth like a chained animal knocking over presents until the battery went dead. It seemed to me that the algorithm should have just realized after trying for 5 or 6 minutes, that it should just go backwards to the last place it was NOT in trouble, and then not return to the Christmas tree area again. I wound up temporary setting wooden two by fours around the base of the tree to stop the Stratos from moving all the presents around and getting permanently stuck. They need to fix that mapping and editing.
CONCLUSION:
The Shark Stratos Combo Robot Vacuum/Mop has good hardware. However, there are mapping and map editing issues, I think those issues will probably be solved with software updates in the near future
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Anti-Tracking NOT Anti-Virus

Intro: It’s important that the user understands that this is not your typical Anti-VIRUS software but rather an Anti-TRACKING software. It takes a lot more computing power and Internet bandwidth to do this in real time, and it shows. As soon as I booted my computer up after installing Norton Anti-track, I immediately noticed that there was a slight hesitation every time I changed websites or search engines. This is because (in my understanding) Norton Anti-track has to fend off an onslaught of Bots from both legitimate and illegitimate software you might have on your computer, that is trying to track your every move online. IF it’s really important to you to remain anonymous, this slight but noticeable hesitation is worth it the protection. However, if you’re willing to pay the lack-of-privacy price of all of the ”FREE” software and apps we’re getting these days, you might prefer to just go-naked, so to speak

This charger seems to favor Apple devices over Android
I got this Qi Maglock charging device because I was looking for quick way charge my Android Pixel phone when I was in my workroom. I assume it’s the manufacturer who describes this Qi charger as being “Compatible with MagSafe & Qi Charging”. My wife has Apple devices, so I was able to see how it performed in both types of phones. The result with my Android phones was disappointing. When I first placed the phone on this charger it would sense the phone, then both the charger and the Android phone would indicate that charging had begun. Soon however, the charging would cycle on and off about once per second. I tried four different Android phones with and without their phone cases, and it performed the same way. On the other hand, when I placed my wife’s new and old iPhones on top of it, it immediately began charging and kept charging until the phone’s battery was full. I have other Maglock wireless chargers both branded with the phone manufacturer’s name and aftermarket chargers. They all charge my Android phones just fine. Your experience with devices may vary, but because of my experience, I would not recommend this charger unless you intend to use it with an iPhone.

We’re going to go through the same agony and cost we did when manufacturers moved from USB type A, USB type B, etc.

This is the travel projector I needed years ago.

I’m retired now, but for many years I traveled the world dragging my heavy AV equipment with me giving technical seminars. Back then, a projector with this much brightness, sharpness, and features, would weigh between 8 and 10 lbs. It would require a spare $100+ delicate spare halogen bulb for each trip, because of the probability that the high intensity bulb filament would burn out in the middle of a presentation. Not too long ago, projectors did not have the Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities of the Vankyo – V700. That lack of flexibility in old projectors meant that extra equipment like media players, sound amplifiers, mixers and various cables had to be carried around too. We live in wonderfully technological times. This projector is not powerful enough for auditoriums, but normally auditoriums come with their own AV systems installed. This is an excellent choice if you give presentations in smaller hotel rooms with 20 or so people. The 1080P resolution allows the audience to see the details that you’re trying to present on the screen. With nothing but a decent Wi-Fi connection available the V700’s capability of accessing Apps such as YouTube, means that if your presentation is on the internet as a YouTube video, you can simply show it to your audience with this projector. The Vankyo V700 uses the Android operating system found on many current televisions. You’ll be able to cast video and audio signals from your phone to this projector, just like you do to an Android television. The interface will look very familiar and operate the same way. For better reliability with high resolution video, I prefer to connect my phone directly to the projector with the supplied HDMI cable using an HDMI to USB-C adapter

There is a place for Value Priced Hearing Aids

Compared to just a few years ago, the technical capabilities of hearing aids available to hearing impaired people like myself, has never been so wide. The field ranges from very high-end medically prescribed hearing aids, to over-the-counter (OTC) devices like the Atom 2. There is now something for every budget to fit many different needs.
At the Value end of the performance scale, we have what are essentially simple general sound amplifiers with tiny speakers and microphones that fit generically into either ear and just make EVERYTHING louder. At the other end, we have computer controlled/programmed devices, which through comprehensive hearing tests, are specifically programmed to boost primarily the frequency-failing-GAPS that the user has. Meanwhile, in those high-end units, the frequencies that the user has no trouble with, are left un-boosted. Some hearing aids use technology similar to noise-cancelling headphones to further lower the volume of frequencies the user can hear well, to further help them to concentrate on those troublesome higher frequencies. That technology can get rid of some of the background noises in a loud restaurant for example. However, not everyone (or their insurance) can go for the highest end units. Also, in my case what I was looking for was a SPARE hearing aid, that I could travel with, in case I -->AGAIN<-- lose my primary hearing aids. It would be similar to taking a spare set of prescription glasses with you on a trip. Another problem with high-end hearing aids, is that they are so specifically tailored to your hearing and ear canal shape, that if you lose them, it can be weeks before you can get another hearing-test and fitting to have another pair made. That happened to me and the Audien Atom 2 is the answer to that problem. Also, the generic nature of the Atom 2 hearing aids means in a pinch, I could visit any Best Buy and walk out with a replacement set in minutes instead of weeks.

The SimpliSafe Smart Lock Series 2, is one optional component of the SimpliSafe Home Security Ecosystem. It is a good mid-level device. Unlike a do-it-all smart lock, it does not have its own camera or base unit. A camera is not necessary here, because it’s expected that you would have a SimpliSafe doorbell within a few feet of this SimpliSafe smart lock. Your separate SimpliSafe doorbell and its camera would have a much better view of the home entrance area and would help you see what is going on. Compared to a door-bell, the smart lock has the advantage of telling you whether your door is locked or not, from anywhere in the world that Wi-Fi is available. The SimpliSafe Smart Lock Series 2, is somewhat unusual because it doesn’t include a complete deadbolt. Instead, it has a motorized body that attaches to your existing deadbolt and mechanically opens and closes it as you command it. An advantage of this, is that it makes installation much easier, because you don’t have to dig or drill into the inner lock workings of the existing door.

Yes, it will after you add an evacuation port to the i6. That plastic piece comes in the box when you buy the charge base that sucks the dirt out of the i6's chamber when it docks to re-charge.

Does this include virtual wall?
Yes, after you send it out for the first-time to map all of the rooms, you can look at the map on your phone app. There you can create virtual barriers that the i6 will not cross. You can also name the rooms and create square "Do-not-go" zones in any of the rooms or halls. With this information you can instruct the i6 to clean just one or more of the rooms or throw-rugs you named and avoid the rest of the rooms.

Can the vacuum mop??
No, the i6 does a good job, but it's just a vacuum for hardwood/tile floors and carpet. Roomba has another model that squirts water on dirt and pulls it up with a "Swiffer" like disposable pad. You can see it on their website.

Would this work in a house with a guinea pig? I.e. be able to pick up poop and some hay (that’d be a huge bonus)
I owned a guinea pig MANY years ago so I'm sure it will pick up its poop as long as it's normal (for a guinea pig) and not diarrhea. The hay is another matter. As you can imagine, it all depends on the length and consistency of the hay. If it's too long or piled too high, almost no household vacuum can take stiff hay in. In this case, if the hay is relatively short (up to 1.5" or so), it should pick it up.

Do you have to have internet for it to work?
Technically it will vacuum without an internet connection, but it will never create a map of your floor plan or cover the rooms logically. Instead, it will bounce from wall to wall like a billiard ball until it runs down its battery. You can do this to cover a room or floor of your house that you don't intend to do again, but you would be wasting all of the advanced features this model has to offer.

No. The Shark Ion is the less complicated type of Robo Vac that uses the Billiard Ball Navigation method where it goes more or less in a straight line until it bumps into something. The "Map a Grid" type has advantages, but they are larger, more expensive and if the home's entire floor plan doesn't have really good Wi-Fi coverage, it can get lost an confused in a far back corner of the house. I have both types and they both have their advantages and disadvantages.
