This process is a joke DO NOT BUY IT
ByKJenkins17fromHenderson, NV
I was pressured in the store to purchase this service, the managers of Bestbuy took money off my 55 inch Samsung LED, I finally agreed to it but still not seeing the value. Getting it scheduled was a pain and the Geek Squad Office was rude and not very understanding. Once they finally came out to do the process the Geek Squad agents weren't very helpful and they left my livingroom a mess. And honestly the the tv looks more vivid and appealing on the vivid setting. Bestbuy has lost a loyal customer because of their lies and insistancy on selling me something that in my opinion is a scam so Bestbuy can make money.

too bad:(

It really is too bad they didn't take the time to show you actually what a calibration entails.
"And honestly the the tv looks more vivid and appealing on the vivid setting."
^^^This is exactly the reason you get your TV calibrated. Because being vivid isn't natural. Having the backlight turned up washes out your fine color details and leaves ghosts in you blacks. My TV took a while for me to get used to but after the demo they game me in the store I can see more black level detail and true colors.
Take it from a happy customer if the calibration was done right it will always be better.

Worst Service EVER
ByCassieR80fromPittsburgh, PA
The Geek Squad not only charged me twice and refuses to remove one of the charges b/c they have no way of confirming that I did not have 2 installations but they also came at 5:30pm after being scheduled to show between 8-12 on a day I had to take off of work to accomodate their availability. The package I purchased was online and included the installation service, the mount and 12ft HDMI cables which the agents told me I had to purchase additionally when they finally showed to my house. THey put my cable boxes in a position that hid my remote sensor and I had to reschedule them to come out to move them which I was then also charged for. I will never, EVER use the Geek Squad again and will never recommend them to anyone.

Moral of the story, don't buy online?
In store I was sat down with an employee that went over our room shape, building construction and what I ultimately wanted to see happen with my purchase. I left the store with the company and myself on the same page and the install went like clockwork. If your gonna spend a good chunk of cash on a service why would you rely on a cold-call to your door?

Waste of money
Bynotinmyareafromcalifornia, md
Before you sign up for the Geek Squad help, be sure they are in your area. Tried getting them out to my house to set up my wireless network and was told they had to come from 50 miles away and couldn't be there for 2 weeks! There's a store within 2 miles of my house and there is always a Squad VW in their lot. Big waste of money.

Calibrating is over-rated
ByDethAndDecayfromDana Point, Ca
The person was helpful but I do not recommend getting your TV calibrated.
Movie mode is not good on a samsung TV. The geek squad technician put my settings on movie mode and the picture looked green and was not bright at all. I do not use dynamic mode when I set the TV to my liking I use Standard, Dynamic can be too bright and decrease the life of your TV. I recommend getting a calibration DVD, reading forums on the web or just set your TV to how you like it. Calibrating your TV is over-rated

Movie Mode
December 13, 2010
A clibrator using movie mode does nothing different to the picture than if he used dynamic. He changed the factory settings anyway to make it his own. If the color is green it means the Calibration didn't take and the color stream fell out of line. Call Geek Squad and have it rescheduled under the one year labor guarentee. Make sure you are given a demo when the next GSI is done.

Money thrown away
ByjayzuezfromHarlingen TX
I purchased a geek squad tv calibration only because I was told that I needed to purchase a gs service to get 3 years interest free bill. What a waist of $$$$$$. My tv is a 58" plasma samsung. A magnolia class. My tv looks awesome out of the box. It did not need any type of extra service other than powering it up. The only noticeable thing about my new "calibrated" tv is that it is now darker then the way I watched it since I bought it in Dec '09. I got it calibrated in May.

ISF isn't eye-balled
December 13, 2010
In all honesty if you bought the 30 dollar DVD you could change the TV to your liking, and you don't even need the DVD to do that. Read a forum and use the remote control, but please don't say that tuning the TV to your eyes is Calibration. I doubt your eyes are ISF certified and if you want a TV to be 100% to industry standards for picture color and accuracy, an ISF calibrator is your only option.

Must have for any videophile!
Bywebhead0626fromSioux City IA
I read a lot of these reviews in the days leading up to my calibration. and i believe that a lot of the people complaining about this service are misinformed on what to expect, or had a bad tech. Apparently not all Techs are created equal. Mine was awesome! Nate was just as excited about doing it as i was. He truly loved his job. And was more knowledgeable than me, which is saying a lot!
A lot of people seem to complain about the TV being brighter and more vivid before the calibration , and that's true.TV's are set that way for a REASON, all the settings cranked up (Torch Mode) to look better against the competitors in a retail store under florescent lights. Not to look great in your living room in natural lighting or dark settings. And since they don't know which set goes to BB and which one is going to your house, they set them all the same.
I will start by clarifying that what this service does, is set your colors to an ISF standard .Which is going to let you view the content as the director INTENDED. This is NOT going to make your colors more vivid or your picture brighter. What it will do though is give you "TRUE and NATURAL" colors and a SHARPER picture.(Which is what HDTV is supposed to be)
You will notice after the calibration the picture seems "dull", (good thing i knew to expect that.) and why wouldn't it? you've been watching TV on "Torch Mode" for the past month. After your eyes adjust, the real magic happens. You see details in the blacks you've never seen before. And the colors are soooooo natural. The "graininess" is all but eliminated from compressed video as well. I switch back and fourth between factory settings and calibration for comparison and am blown away. The presets look horrific. The whole screen has an unnatural blue hue to it. It literally hurts my eyes! The difference is amazing! I will never go back. It's like watching HDTV for the first time all over again!
Sure you might get close to this w/ self optimizers. But if your like me you want the "TRUEST" picture possible. I don't think that's possible with out professional calibration.
The computer knows what white looks like, your eyes only "perceive" white. Our eyes see bluish white as whiter which makes eyeballing it next to impossible. Plus w/ so many options in the picture settings calibration has never been easier and more in-depth for a tech and never more confusing for the consumer.
On the downside, of course the price. $300 is a hard price to sell. If however you just bought a $3000 TV it's worth every penny.
Now i will say that this service is not for everyone. If you only plug in your TV and turn it on, then this is not for you. Although if that's the case you wouldn't be reading this! If on the other hand your like me(which you probably are) and want to squeeze every bit of potential out of you home theater system and get THEE BEST picture possible, than this is DEFIANTLY for you.
Videophiles thank me later. ; )

Wrong comment
December 13, 2010
ISF Calibrators do not "Eye ball" calibrations. They use a sensor that is placed on the tv screen to read output levels. It is with this insturment that the calibrator uses the factory menu's to change color and contrast settings. Google the sensor used by sencore. This is how color accuracy is deteremined.
This customer is correct in the original post.
Also, the s2 will give you the option of a store-mode or home-mode. Get it calibrated and have the ISF tech show you the difference between the home mode and Calibration. Still a very big difference.

s2 home mode
March 6, 2011
Choosing the Home Mode over the store mode automatically set britness and contrast differently to the store mode, but this does not change depending on the home it is in. If you went into a Best Buy and changed the store demo to "Home" mode, the settings would be the same as those in your current home. So, yes, choosing home mode is the right thing to do. But it does not give you Calibration picture.

what are the odds . . . .
ByGenifromPhiladelphia, PA
After all the reviews I started to be comfortable with the fact that I spent money on the calibration. The guy seemed nice enough but barely spoke 10 words, didn't explain anything so I don't know what he was doing to my tv. After he left, when I had a chance to watch TV the picture quality was TERRIBLE. I have to keep adjusting the settings each time I turn on the tv. I'm going to call Best Buy to see about getting this resolved. What are the odds that I would have the only bad calibration service? Will write another review if there's something to report (hopefully good!)

They have a workmanship warrenty on all services for 1 year. Call them and have it redone, then ask them to demonstrate the service. I had to call them and redo a router set-up.

My advice is to not use Geek Squad for anything.
Bycgvl
I was very disappointed in Geek Squad. We spent almost $3,000 on a new t.v. blue ray player, mounting, etc. and paid for Geek Squad to come and install the lot of it. Well, during our consulation we were told that we bought the 'wrong t.v. for our room' and should have bought a plasma instead of an LED LCD internet t.v.! Then he talked us out of the mounting that we wanted claiming to try to save us money. He also told us we got the wrong blu ray player and would have to return that also. He also said in a huff that we definitely should have consulted him before we attempted to purchase any t.v. at all! We were a little put off by this representative, but once the 'estimates' were sent to us we were pushed over the edge. We were given 3 estimates from Geek Squad; one was for $900.00 more to install, one was for $700.00 more and one was for $300.00 more in addition to the $349.99 we had already paid to have them come and mount the t.v. in the first place. I felt completely taken advantage of. On the bright side, we went back to Best Buy and they did not give us any type of issue to return the Geek Squad purchase. We did however, still have to pay $99.00 for the consultation fee....not a great deal, but we looked at it as a $99.00 lesson. We ended up hooking the whole thing up ourselves and saved money. I guess the Geek Squad consultant was correct about one thing. He did end up saving us money...once we decided to not use Geek Squad at all!

So, are you complaining about the mounting service or the "Consultaion" you were given. That's why I would assume they sold the consultation, because if an associate sold you the mounting service and an installer went to the house, he not only would have charged you the addition install fee's, but it would have made your 349.99$ mounting non-refundable since they went to your house. All-in-all, spending the 100 dollars on the consult saved you a lot of headache and even more money.
This install wasn't the fault of the Geek Squad, but the difficulty of installing at the home and maybe the over-promising of the associate. And by the way, if the consult is sold before you purchase the TV and then come in to purchase after the consult has been done the 100 dollars is refunded toward the purchase.
