Blu Review for Halloween
on August 16, 2010
Posted by: NewEnglandpatsfan
This low budget story of a crazed slasher out to get Laurie started a new trend in film making with some of the first use of steady cam (to offer us the perspective from the eyes of Michael Myers the stalker). This was the highest box office smash in the world of horror at the point the movie was original released, no surprise that it launched Jamie Lee Curtis onto bigger things in Hollywood. A must have movie for any fan of horror.
"Halloween" gets the royal treatment on Bluray with this very satisfying HD transfer. The 1080p HD master reveals unprecendented detail and repairs many of the "soft" apearing scenes with incredible detail and clarity. The colors pop and some shots even have a 3D presence such as those where Laurie is walking home from school surrounded by the tress lining the streets and the bright orange leaves on the ground. The sound is mixed in an Uncompressed PCM 5.1 with a Dolby Digital 5.1. While the film will never sound like "Terminator Salvation', it offers crystal clear ambient and rear channel effects, crisp dialogue, and the classic music theme has never sounded better or more chlling. This one is priced to own, and a must for fans!
What's great about it: Stunning HD transfer.
What's not so great: Sad to say Extras

H2 is one of the entertaining entrys in the series

Here it is the inevitable sequel to the 2007 Rob Zombie remake and I gotta say it's every bit as fun. Ok the original John Carpenter version is probably the greatest horror movie ever but this isn't bad as a modern updated. The first 30 minutes in this film are some of the best I have seen in a while but somewhere in the middle it does lose it a bit, but it doesn't subtract from all the carnage that Michael Myers creates. The ending is great, those who enjoyed the first remake can make up their own minds. Remember this is a slasher horror so if you don't like these movies in general then don't watch them but if you like this genre then this is wickedly fun viewing. Enjoy
What's great about it: Michael is Ruthless and so mean
What's not so great: Not better then original version of Rob Zombie Halloween

He of the bluish-white Captain Kirk mask and bloody butcher knife comes home to Haddonfield once more in Rob Zombie's remake of the 1978 John Carpenter shocker. Escaping from the asylum where he remained mute for 15 years after a childhood orgy of bloodletting, Michael Myers stalks younger sister Laurie (Scout Taylor-Compton) while being pursued by obsessed psychologist Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowell). Tyler Mane, Sheri Moon Zombie, Brad Dourif also star. Unrated version; 121 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English, Spanish; alternate ending; audio commentary; bloopers; deleted scenes; featurettes; Inchmaking ofInch documentary; screen test; theatrical trailer; more. Two-disc set.

Comes close to the original Halloween movie
on August 16, 2010

from Comes close to the original as one of the best in
Rob Zombie is a film making visionary! He took john carpenters original Halloween and added so many backgrounds to the story line. At the beginning of the film, the history of Michael Myers makes you sympathetic toward the soul less monster. As the film progresses, and Michael escapes the psych ward, the story picks up where Carpenters began. There were points in the movie when I hoped Micheal was going to show some glimmer of remorse and a softer side, but then BAM, he attacks again! Great flick, I think it was better than the original!
What's great about it: insight into the mind of a psychopath. of Michael Myers
What's not so great: Extras are disappointing

Jason Is Back, more Deadly Than Ever
on August 16, 2010

from Jason Is Back, More Deadly Than Ever
The new Jason is leaner and meaner than ever. There's method to his madness, and it all makes sense (well, a Jason kind of sense). This particular flick plays it back to Jason's hey-day before he became the Kane Hodder lumbering zombie, and is easily better than everything that came after part 4. In keeping with tradition, the kills are swift and very brutal - and there's lots of them. In short, If you're a long-time Vorhees fan, you'd be mad to listen to the naysayers and not give this a go. The actual Blu ray itself has crystal clear 5.1 HD dolby sound and a flawless picture. Black levels are deep and colours well saturated, with plenty of detail. This version is 9 minutes longer than the cinema version, adding extra plot and some gore. Jason isn't in Hell, he isn't even in outer space (lol). He's back where he belongs at Camp Crystal lake, doing what he does best ;-)
