I have only had the 9500ix for 5 days now and have probably filtered out all the false pick ups. I drove all over town and the surrounding Highway. The only reason i gave the accuracy a 4 is because so far, i have not come accross a cop with his radar or laser on. LOL!! They use laser and k mostly around here. I know that from a friend who has this detector as well. I really got a good deal as well for it. Best Buy had online this one for only $374.00. It was only at this price for 3 days. I bought the last one and it is the most updated one for this model. I have no doubt about this detector! I have seen it perform before i got it and for the price, I could not let it get by me! I use detectors mostly for just trying to find where the cops are when driving. I usually never go over 5 mph of the posted speed anymore. Ejoy your detector and drive safely!
What's great about it: All the extras it can do!!
What's not so great: I do not know yet!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Need to be computer savy.... or do you need to be?

I boought 2 to give for Christmas. I gave one to my wife and father inlaw. My wife loves it. We can download from the Adobe Digital Reader using from KOBO or the Literati site. You have to know what you are doing on a computer to realize that the directions they give in the package are not the best. The best way to really enjoy the Literati is to just use the wifi to download the books you want at KOBO site. Just enjoy and yes , this is a basic ereader, but a very nice one to use if you do not make a big deal out of it and just do the wifi, relax, and enjoy a good book with a good cup of coffee. Happy new year to all who read this!
Matt :)
What's great about it: The price and the simplicity of just useing the wifi to download to get the books.
What's not so great: Trying to make it harder then it is to get books downloaded on the Literati.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I recommend......
January 21, 2011
My wife and I bought 2 of them. We did have problems at first with them. She did talk to someone at KOBO and got a lot of help. Also, there is a lot of help on their web site from others that left comments. If you are really are unhappy, do not feel it is worth the trouble, and are not over the 30 days of buying it, then go ahead and return it. I recommend, If you can, to first take the time to call KOBO or go to the website and read what people have left there for others to help them with the Literati. I know my wife left info that got her to use hers without anymore problems. I hope this has helped you.

Literati Black
By Dissapointed1 from Naperville, IL
Got this Literati for Christmas as a gift. It took forever to figure out how to download on to the computer. Once I figured it out it took like 10 minutes for all updates. However, what they DO NOT tell you is that you have to have the Literati turned on while it is charging. I had been using and reading with it for a day after it was charged. I bought a book and downloaded it. Then turned off the Literati and plugged it in to charge over night. Then next day-nothing-DEAD. I called the Technical support line, and I even tried to reset it on the back, and nothing DEAD. The rude woman goes.......you can't have it turned off when you charge it. I said, "Then maybe you should have that important information in the directions!!" Regardless all they can do is send me an empty box, and I have to mail it in, and then they will send me a new one in 5-6 weeks. Are you kidding me!!!! This is a horrible device and I would suggest that you buy a Kindle or something else. I mean if the whole system fries out just by turning it off to charge.....then you would think that they would tell you this to begin with!!! DO NOT BUY THIS!!

Curious......

I am surprised that they said you can not turn off your Literati to charge it. We turn both of ours off when we go to charge them before we sleep and they are all charged up the next morning!

good radar detector, but...
By photoguy81 from Philadelphia area
i've been using an X50 for a few weeks now. mostly been disappointed, but i just figured out why. everything i've read has said to turn off the X-band due to the high number of false alarms from automatic doors. i complied, but found that i was passing speed traps without a single beep here in Pennsylvania. i've been playing it safe, watching my speed while i learn the ins and out of my Escort, thankfully.
i recently decided to try an experiment, and turned the X-band back on. i've had to put up with the frequent false alarms, but learned an important fact. everything i read on the matter stated that most police do not use X-band any more. that just is NOT true here in PA. it seems that PA State Troopers do still use the band, and this is not the only state.
in general, i think that the 8500 X50 is a good radar detector. the tone is loud enough to be heard over moderate music volume (and it has a headphone jack). it has a high level of customization available in the performance. and it can be easily read / understood by novice users, or set up to give experienced users additional information.
my advice is this:
1. make sure that ALL bands are turned on. the default for the X50 has at least POP turned off.
2. take a couple of weeks to learn / test your new detector. learn it's range for different bands especially.
3. if you have doubts about it working properly, exchange it. this is a sensitive piece of electronics, and there are probably going to be bad units. don't just blast it in a review because it didn't work for you. try a new one

IF YOU CAN......
July 27, 2011
If you can, if it is not too late to return the detector, get the 9500ix. It is so much better and very much a need for taking out all the false alarms and learning what alarms are not false ones. It is great with the GPS and it knows all the areas of false by memory of the location. You will not be dissapointed with this one!! I love it very much!!!

No Other comes close. Wow!
By Officer6866
I've been an officer for over 17 years and this is BY FAR the best detector ever. I have never pulled anybody over and come to find out there was a passport 9500ix in the vehicle. Recently, a few of my buddies and I tested the top 5 on the market using our radar guns. The Passport detected us way before any of the others we tested. If everybody owned one, I probably would never have to write a speeding ticket again. It's that great
