The second installment in the Evangelion film series is nothing less than stunning. Those familiar with the first film have nothing to worry about when it comes to expecting great things from its sequel.
The film follows the original storyline from the series with some creative adjustments, including the addition of Mari and the brief cameo of Unit 5. The storyline does skew from the original storyline more often than in the first film, but in the end, the changes make more sense and can be seen as a vast improvement.
The graphics and animations are on par with the first film, especially in the blue ray format. The effects and contrast of the colors used give a greater depth to the overall experience.
Overall the movie is amazing. The only negative I find is the usual voice acting between languages. The English voice overs are better than most films but could still use a little tweaking in that the insults and cursing is far from believable. And I apreciate that scenes meant to be in English speaking countries are still in English during the Japanese audio set up, but still sound really cheesy.
What's great about it: Storyline, Great Price
What's not so great: English voice acting.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Best cinematic movie ever!!!
But seriously, if you enjoy cheesy plotlines, bad acting, terrible special effects, ninjas and aliens, well then you hit the jackpot.
The movie is awful to say the least, and the fact that it came out on blue ray is amazing.
What's great about it: It's on blue-ray
What's not so great: Everything else.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Mamoru Oshii's legendary anime film returns in a stunning new edition remastered by Oshii himself. All the original animations are reproduced with the latest digital film and animation technologies, including 3D-CGI. Set in a re-imagined Hong Kong.

If you're a die hard fan of the original GitS anime then you'll probably see this and pick it up like I did expecting a huge upgrade from the original.
Well, you won't get that.
The movie doesn't look that much different than if you were to pick up the original on dvd. Aside from a few cgi scenes that were added in, which throw you off the plot, the movie is pretty much the same. Honestly it would probably have been for the best just to leave them out all together and enhance the original scenes quality.
At times the voice acting can seem cheesy and off key. If you see someone have they're arm broken or getting shot at you expect them to get a little loud, instead they keep it pretty low key in this version. Granted if you're like me, you probably would rather just throw on the subtitles and listen to it in japanese.
What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: Changes to the original

When I first picked this up I thought it would just be a line by line remake of the series, which I love and have been watching since its premier. To my enjoyment it actually enhanced the original storyline, making it far more exciting to watch. If you have never experienced an animated feature in blue-ray than this is where you want to start. The HD quality of the images is breathtakingly stunning. Jaw dropping would be an understatement. Can't wait to see the next installment.
What's great about it: Video quality
What's not so great: nothing.

The first time I watched this movie I was extremely impressed with the cgi. From the very beginning you can tell that a lot of work was put into the detail of the environments and characters. What equally impressed me as a FF7 fan is that they were able to appropriately incorporate all of the main characters from the game, some more than others, but thats a given.
The plot of the movie is a little confusing at first but eventually comes together towards the middle of the movie. The fact that they based it upon the afteryears of the games storyline can leave those who never actually played the game lost a little longer than those that have.
The only real issue I had with the movie was the voice acting. I can understand the need to change certain words or lines when translating from one language to another, but I find it lazy when you through unnecessary slang into the mix like "that's whack" into a movie like this.
What's great about it: Great cgi graphics.
What's not so great: Voice acting.
I would recommend this to a friend!
