I purchased these speakers recently for playing games and movies, with some light music listening in mind. These speakers are absolutely great for gaming. Great lower bass range and volume. The mid-range and highs sound good, for the most part they have some crispness to them with a little thump here and there. You may want to adjust these when you get them if you sit low at your desk. My head ends up being about 12 inches below the aim of the mid and tweet and its a very notable difference with your ears not in their direct aim. For music they are ok, I have to change the EQ a lot when changing music types to get a better sound out of them, so you may want to set up some predefined ones, if you are not using other equipment etc. I have my Sennheiser headphones for music though.
These are the speakers you want though if you are looking for a inexpensive powerful 2.1 setup to reproduce all the gunfire, explosions, and dragon killing. Games I play, SC, D3, BF3, Crysis, Witcher, Metro, etc. All of them have sounded great so far and I am very happy I purchased these.
