Too much chance of card getting hacked

This is not a reflection on Best Buy,, but more so Sony. The card is activated by Best Buy at time of purchase, but if the card is not redeemed on the Sony site right away, then hackers are likely to submit codes that will redeem the card before you can. Sony at that point will not help you, and Best Buy cannot do anything because the back of the card has been scratched off.
If you are not planning on posting the card the same day do not buy it.
